Title: It's Not Fair

Summary: Ella Beene Novak has questions about her daddy.

Notes: This is unedited and it was written in like thirty minutes to mend my broken heart.

She puts her backpack in the coat room. "Dad?" She calls out. "Dad, I saw your car in the driveway."

She walks into the living room. Her dad sits there, staring at the blank television set. "Dad," Ella Beene-Novak says again.

She sits on the couch. "Dad?" She says.

Cyrus turns to his daughter. "Ella," he looks at her.

"Dad, are you okay?" She asks.

"Do you remember your daddy?" He asks her. "He, uh, he died ten years ago, today."

"A little bit," she says slowly. "I remember pictures."

Cyrus unlocks his phone and pulls up his pictures. "This," he shows Ella a picture. "Is your dad and I at out wedding." He slides the screen. "And there's when we got you. And then your christening, and your first birthday, and your second, and your third."

Ella sighs. "What was he like?"

"He was sweet and he was wonderful."

"I wish I could remember him," Ella says quietly. "When we talk about our families at school and I don't know what to say about Daddy."

"You know, you were his entire world Ella. He loved you more than anything." Cyrus tells her.

"Family day's tomorrow," Ella blurts. "I don't wanna go, because Melissa Park says that I should have two parents for Family Day, and I don't wanna go."

"You don't have to," Cyrus tells her. "You can stay home, and I can tell you more about your dad. We can go roller blading. Your dad loved that."

"It's not fair," Ella says, she's crying now.

"I know," he hugs her close. "It's not fair."
