It's been only two days since Shiki's death when Eri first sees her doppelganger. To be precise, she sees a flash of pink hair when she passes by Sunshine, but when she turns to look, it's already gone.

Her double's appearances only increase in frequency over the next few days. She actually sees herself shopping in A-East only two days later, accompanied by a surly-looking boy clearly disgruntled to be in the lolita store. From 104 to Molco to even window-shopping at the Shibu Department Store, Eri sees herself browsing the stores. She tells her friends that she doesn't feel well and heads home, palms slippery with sweat. The next day, she manages to make it through most of the day until she sees a familiar figure buying hot dogs in Spain Hill. Then she sprints back to her home, wobbling a bit in her heeled boots, and curls up under the covers.

How much safety does the room afford, though, when she's being trailed by an omen of her own death? She knew the stories; anyone who saw their double died soon after. Invariably, her thoughts trail back to Shiki. There's still a gaping hole where her best friend should be, the jagged wound only scarred over rather than healed by time.

Maybe you just weren't meant to be a designer.

Her last words to her best friend had been the ones that caused her death.

I'm so sorry, Shiki. Please. Please don't make me join you to apologize.
