Just a short little one-shot I thought of after I watched Payson's performance on the bars.

A Winning Attitude

"Payson, you can do this," Sasha told her as he looked directly into her eyes. His words barely registered in her mind. All Payson could think about was the bars. And her fall. And the agony she felt after it. Nothing else entered her thoughts. Until she heard his voice.

"Champ!" Payson heard from the direction of the bleachers. She looked at Sasha and mumbled something about being right back. She walked over to the bleachers and saw the one person who could get her through this. Nicky Russo.

"What are you doing here?" Payson whispered. He smiled at her, and her heart started to melt. Nicky was there, right there, during the biggest moment of her life. And she wouldn't want it any other way.

"Come on, you know I can't resist a good gymnastics competition. Especially one your in," Nicky replied. He took her hand in his. Payson felt a few tears fall from her eyes. Nicky reached up with his free hand and wiped away her tears. He left his hand on her face, and he stroked her cheek gently.

"I can't do this, Nicky," Payson whispered.

Nicky smiled at her reassuringly, "Of course, you can. You can't win, but you can do this."

Payson felt anger boiling in her that she hadn't felt since Kelly Parker had teased her about her back during Nationals. The kind of fire that made her perform at her best. She pulled away from him angrily.

"Yes, I can," she snapped. "I can win this. I'm better than every girl out there, including Gengi Cho."

"What makes you think you can win?" Nicky asked. "All the training you've done leading up to this?"

"No. I know I can win because I'm Payson Keeler, and I'm a winner," Payson snapped. She walked away from him without looking back. If she had looked back, she would have seen the guy of her dreams smiling like he had just one a gold medal himself.

This is the shortest story I've EVER written. I think it flows well, though. I think that if I wrote any more of it, it wouldn't work.
