(Yes, I know, I'm meant to be updating my Baby Chronicles story, but I saw this piece of fan art and just HAD to write a story for it!)
James pulled out his Quidditch robes and grinned to himself. Captain. Merlin, that sounded good.
It was the first game of the year – his seventh year – and it was a bright, sunny day. He had been hoping it wouldn't rain for any of his games this year, and this was looking to be a pretty good start.
Actually, everything about this year was looking good so far. He had been made Head Boy, and Lily Evans, the love of his life, was Head Girl. At first, she barely spoke to him, but James knew that he had changed over the summer. She quickly noticed the changes in his attitude, and now (he was proud to say) they were friends.
But, of course, he was still madly in love with her.
"Prongs! Hurry up!" Sirius hollered from the common room.
"Coming!" James hollered back, trotting down the stairs and leading the way to the Quidditch pitch.
On the way, he spotted that familiar red hair and grinned.
"Evans!" He shouted.
She turned and smiled at him. "Potter," she said with a grin. Usually, it would have been accompanied by a vicious scowl and a painful insult, but today it seemed friendly and calm.
"Are you coming to watch the match?" He asked hopefully.
"Well," she answered, staring him right in the eyes, "as Head Girl, I felt obliged to. It is the first match of the year, you know."
"Yes, I'm aware of that," James answered with a smirk. "Wish me luck, Evans?"
Lily looked at him. She seemed hesitant. Instantly, James thought that she had found a boyfriend – a Hufflepuff boyfriend.
But then she smiled and said, "Good luck, Potter."
James grinned down at her before heading to the Gryffindor changing room.
It was a brilliant match. Hufflepuff had been a strong team throughout James' years at Hogwarts, and this year was no different. But, eventually, the Gryffindor seeker caught the Snitch and it was announced that Gryffindor had won.
"Yes!" James hissed to himself, throwing a triumphant fist in the air. After shaking hands with the Hufflepuffs and congratulating them on a fantastic match, James joined his teammates, who were already celebrating loudly.
As Sirius whacked James on the back and shouted to the team, "What a captain, huh?", James saw Lily dashing onto the pitch.
"Evans?" He managed to ask before she cut him off by crashing her lips into his.
He couldn't believe it. Lily Evans was kissing him. Him! The boy she had loathed throughout their entire life at Hogwarts. And now she was kissing him in front of the entire school, with Sirius wolf whistling right beside them and the Gryffindor team cheering even louder than they were before.
He could feel Lily pulling away, but he was only just beginning to enjoy the kiss and he wasn't about to let her run away and never speak to him again. Not yet. He threw his arms around her waist, pulled her closer and pressed his lips against hers. He felt her smile against his lips as her arms slowly snuck around his neck. He lifted her off the ground and spun around before putting her back down and finally pulling away.
She was blushing furiously, but she was smiling. And that was all he needed.
