For my claim at slash100, which is general Doctor Who (New Series).
Prompt 43 – Lightening
-------------------------------------
Elton remembers the fateful night he met the Doctor with a great deal of unease. Ever since he met the Doctor again the whole affair has been coming back to him slowly. He'd always wondered whether the strange man he saw in his living room was the one who'd killed his mother. Elton had hated that man.
It wasn't until after the Doctor left that Elton had recovered another forgotten memory. A night all too similar to that one. He woke to a strange noise, he thought of the whirring that had awoken him on the night of his mother's death. He froze and listened carefully for his father's loud snores. The young boy jumped as a fork of lightening exploded across the night sky.
Elton whimpered and wrapped himself in his duvet cover, eyes squeezed tight against the light that penetrated his fortress of covers. He thought of the first time he saw lightening, his mother patiently explaining it could not hurt him. His mother holding him, comforting him. He knew she would not come.
A hand gently pulled the covers from around Elton's body. For a second Elton thought his mother had returned, that his thoughts had brought her back to him. Then he saw warm brown eyes where cool blue should have been. A sob threatened to escape from Elton's lips when he saw the man he thought responsible for his mother's death. Elton closed him eyes and braced himself thinking that the man had returned to finish him off.
Moments passed and nothing happened, Elton opened his eyes. The man sat before him looking glum. He opened his mouth to speak, but seemed to think better of it. He turned to look out of the window, gazing at the storm outside he seemed to find his words.
"I'm sorry, I really am." He did not turn to Elton as he spoke, but continued to look out of the window into the darkness.
"You killed her..." The boy sobbed, he dug his hands onto his duvet as tears began to fall down his cheeks.
"What?" The man snapped, turning to face Elton at last.
"My mum... She died... The night.. you came." Elton choked out.
The man looked shocked. "That's not what... I didn't... I wouldn't... I... I tried to save her!" He paused and glanced out of the window again. "I really did. I tried to help, but... I was too slow... I am so sorry."
The man leaned across and wrapped his arms around Elton's smaller frame. Elton sobbed uncontrollably into the other man's embrace. He heard nonsensical, yet comforting words being whispered above him. He strained to hear them, to understand them over his own tears, but he could not. Hours seemed to pass in the Doctor's arms. Anger drained from him as time passed, this man who held him so carefully could not have killed his mother, he knew that.
At some point Elton must have fallen asleep for the next thing he remembered was waking up to clear skies and an empty room. The memories of the night before were hazy at the time and he struggled to recall everything that had come to pass. But one thing he knew for sure was he loved that man.

R&R please.
I know it's not great, but I'm still getting back into the swing of writing again.
Oh and when I posted this elsewhere people asked who Elton was, he was the main character in the episode Love & Monsters of the new series.
