Zootopia Short Stories: The Big Countdown

Our two favorite cops on New Year's Eve get busted while at work. A very short story I wrote just for fun since I was bored today at the farm. We'll shot off a few fireworks tonight for the kids.

Zootopia on New Year's Eve is always an exciting place to be and tonight the downtown park is packed to overflowing with mammals of all sizes as they watch the city's big free concert and everyone is in a festive mood. The pop star Gazelle has just finished her latest song as the finale begins. With growing anticipation, everyone pushes closer to the stage.

TEN

The two police officers watch the crowd as the bright shimmering mechanical ball begins its descent down the huge pole as everyone in the square joins Gazelle as she leads them in the final countdown from the count of ten. The grey furred rabbit doe can sense her partner right beside her as she steps higher onto her makeshift platform, a stack of old wooden crates.

NINE

The uniformed red fox watches the crowd to his left, his eyes scanning for any potential crime. Packed into the square like this, it is prime territory for pickpocketers and purse snatchers. However it is way too crowded for him to see much.

EIGHT

A large elephant wearing a pink party hat steps in front of her, so that even perched on her boxes the rabbit cannot see anything. She shouts for the drunken pachyderm to move out of her way

SEVEN

He can't see any better than the rabbit, despite being taller, but finally the elephant stumbles away, giving him a better view.

SIX

Her nose twitches when she thinks she sees two bucks fighting, but they have only accidentally locked horns as they kissed. Sighing she steps back slightly on the crates and puts a paw onto the fox to steady herself.

FIVE

He slightly jumps when he feels her paw grip his shoulder and he looks over at her. Standing on her crates, they are now about the same height.

FOUR

Amethyst eyes briefly locked onto jade as the rabbit and fox look at each other and both blush. At least the rabbit did, with the insides of her ears turning slightly pink. She really can't tell if he did because of the handsome fox's coloring.

THREE

A drunken bear stumbles towards their station and the rabbit winces and begins to spring off her perch as she see that he had lost his balance and almost sits on a raccoon couple, but they move out of his way. The male coon delivers a string of creative curses.

TWO

The crowd tenses up and both officers can feel the excitement.

ONE

There is a shift in the crowd and an armadillo bumps into the crates, causing the rabbit to slip and fall towards her partner.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The cheering and noise is deafening as the fox catches his partner in his arms, she loops her paws around his neck. He looks down at her and then they kiss.

"Happy New Year Nick," the rabbit sighs.

"Same to you Carrots," the fox chuckles.

Confetti falls all around them as they kiss yet again. Suddenly their radios blare with Chief Bogo's bellow, "Wilde quit kissing Hopps and get back to work!"

The fox almost drops his bunny as he quickly sets her down.

"How did he know?" she asks as her ears droop in concern.

"Ah carrots…we're being broadcasted on the Jumbotron," Nick replies as he waves at the camera and mouths "Hi Mom."

"Sweet cheese and crackers!" Judy groans as she facepaws herself.

Around them the crowd begins to sing the song Auld Lang Syne as the fireworks explode above, and so another year begins in Zootopia!

Happy New Year Ya'll!
