"Tommy! We've got a hit on facial recog! It's Lindy."

His heart stopped. For a minute he didn't believe it. He'd been searching for 3 months from the minute she disappeared. He'd searched day and night, every day. He came close a few times but, he knew that Lindy didn't want to be found and that she was smart enough to stay hidden. So why now?

"Tommy?"

"Yeah, sorry."

He ran to the screen where he found a picture of a hooded Lindy captured by an ATM. Her hair was longer, and she had a cut above her left eye and in her bottom lip. It like she was looking right at him. Like she wanted him to see.

"Where was this at?"

"The same street as her place."

"I'm calling Sophia."

The phone rang as Tommy paced back and forth impatiently. Finally, Sophia answered,

"What's up? Did you find something?"

Tommy wasn't the only one desperate to find Lindy. Sophia was at the station with him almost every day.

"Lindy's back. She's on your street. Has she showed up?"

Tommy heard a noise in the background, the creak of a door maybe. Sophia gasped and Tommy heard her, "Sophia."

"Sophia, do not let her leave! Do you hear me? I'm on my way! You keep her there!"

Sophia pushed an "okay" through the tears before she hung up. Tommy's heart was beating faster and he felt like the air was being drawn from his chest with step he took closer to Lindy. He got in his car, turned on the lights and sirens and as fast as he could drive, was as fast as he was going. He was so scared that she'd leave again. That he was going to miss his chance to see the girl he'd been missing for three months, and the one he'd been loving for much longer.

He pulled up to Sophia's building and yanked the keys from the ignition. It was like he couldn't see clearly. All he could see was Lindy. Tommy ran up the stairs to Sophia's door that was open, "Lindy."

There she was. She turned around and he saw her in slow motion. She had tears running down her face. All Tommy wanted to do was hold her but, he was stuck. Standing in the doorway with wide eyes, he felt powerless. He told himself to move. To run to her, grab her, and never let go, but, he couldn't.

She started to walk toward him slowly at first but then, she ran and threw her arms around his neck, "I've really missed you," she whispered.

He breathed her in and loved the way she smelled. Like sweat and lavender. He finally wrapped his arms around hers and began to cry as he laid his head on top of hers. He decided then that he would never lose her. Ever again.
