Fox Tails
A soft grin drew Ryo's lips as he gazed over the ocean where a scarlet sunset hung. Rika looked away, feeling like she stared at his handsome face for a second too long.
"Impressive view."
"If you say so." She could have said he was easily impressed, but their present situation called for a more subtle snide remark. "I feel guilty just sitting here."
Her eyes darted to Renamon who was lying comfortably on a tree branch. Her bushy fox tail swayed back and forth teasingly above Cyberdramon. The bipedal mutt appeared only slightly aggravated.
"I know what you mean." Ryo lowered his head. "The military doesn't know what they're dealing with."
There it was again. That look that gave Rika the impression he was out to save the entire world. His ocean blue eyes gazed at her, and she felt herself blush.
"Cyberdramon and I, we're going back. Someone has to slow its expansion into the city while the others regain their strength."
She frowned. "Are you insane? Do you want to get yourself killed?" She jumped from the bench. "All we've managed to do so far is make it angry and now it's even more powerful than when it first got here!" She made a sound of disgust. "Another one of your attempts at being the hero. Who are you trying to impress?"
"You actually." He spoke so frankly, Rika's heart skipped.
"Don't be stupid."
"Hey, I'll be fine, don't worry."
"Who's worrying? There's no way I'm letting you have all the action. I'm coming with you."
"There's no point trying to stop you is there?"
She put a fist on her hip. "Not if you want a few broken parts in the process."
He produced a charming smile, and she couldn't help but shake her head and smile back.
"You're impossible Ryo."
"It must be my attractive quality."
"Ugh. Let's go Renamon. He talks less when he's fighting."
Renamon's tail brushed against Cyberdramon's snout. He snarled, showing a set of canine teeth and unexpectedly sneezed. Renamon chuckled and watched the tempered beast march away.
