Bowgun and a Barroth

We were finally coming to the muddy clearing where barroths usually swam. I couldn't tell whether or not that smell was the mud or me. My village wasn't the largest place. It was home to only one hunter and it needed food. One barroth could feed the whole village for at least a few days. They asked me to go out and "bring home the bacon." My pig Rose hates that term. Oh no! I forgot to pet my pig before coming out here!

The sun came down even hotter when I emerged from the trees. I saw the barroth's crown slightly above the water. It was always good to see him before he saw me. I loaded my light bowgun with Flame level 2's. This wasn't just about strength and courage. It was also about timing. Since I was having my Guan Duo repaired this bow

gun would have to do. I held my breath and ran toward the barroth. I dove over the crown just in time as it emerged from the mud. I hated being covered in that sludge, but I managed to get a few shots fired. It haunts me that I didn't pet Rose before coming out here.

Even though we hunters come out here armed in good strong armor, compared to the monsters, we aren't that big. No hunter likes to take a hit. Especially from a barroth. Jaggi's and Quro's aren't so bad. But the bigger monsters give you a good reason sleep-in the next morning. I have to talk to the village about getting a massage therapist. Shoulda rubbed that pig-o-mine.

The battle ensued. It was liked tug-o-war. One minute he was winning the next minute I was. I popped a potion. Now for those of you that don't know, when a hunter eats a potion and puts their hands up over their heads in what seems like joy; that is actually an involuntary reflex of the muscular nerves. It's a symptom brought on by the chemical in the potion. Otherwise, you wouldn't be frozen in that position for the few precious seconds you have while standing in the face of danger. I should talk to the potion makers about that.

I rolled around the barroth and ran a few feet away. It turned shifting its weight to turn around. I popped a potion. He turned and put his head down. I loaded my bowgun. Big mistake. BAM! I go flying and rolling head over heels. "Shoulda snuggled my pig." I thought as I landed on my head and fell over. I recovered quickly and tried to run but barroth completed a tail swing and I flew to the side. I always wondered how we hunters held on to our weapons when taking these plunges. Maybe I'll ask Rose when I get back.

I was at the end of my rope. I popped my last potion ten minutes ago. I was out of ammo. I hadn't come prepared well enough. I looked up at my life bar. It had about an inch. I loaded six rounds of normals. Barroth turned around and faced me. Time seemed to slow down. I aimed. He put his head down as I looked up at my stamina. It was as low as it could go. Right or left both led to the same end. Defeat. Man, that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Bitter bugs are sweeter. He came charging. I closed my eyes and shot. I heard a roar. Some music. I open my eyes to see why I was still conscious. I looked up and saw something big coming down from the sky. A sign hit me slam in the face. "Main Mission Complete". And there we lay. The hunted barroth and an unconscious bow gunner. Good thing those annoying little cats will carry me home.

Was it a good hunt?

Oh yea. :)
