Getting the Words Right

This is, of course, a place for amateur writers. But let's face it, some amateurs are much better than others. i hope to offer help to those who are not in that class. Help with errors that seem to be most common among the newest writers. First a very handy tool;

If you aren't certain if your wording is right, it often helps to take the sentence apart. If you have an issue involving 2 people, drop one out.

Change 'Javi looked at Kevin and I...' to "Javi looked at ... I." Now you can see that "I' should be "me" - "...Kevin and me." "I" tends to be near the start of a sentence. "Me" tends to be near the end.

That is one of our most common errors. Using "I" when we should use "me."

Commas: They don't define the sound of a sentence. They define its structure. Go on the inet and look for "rules for commas."

"I ran out the door there was a man standing on my walk he looked lost." This is a run-on sentence. It confuses readers, slows them down. Learn punctuation.

There, their, they're

There is closely related to where.

Their is about posession - the part "heir' is a clue to that.

They're - a combination - a contraction - of they & are.

More later.
