Ever since the dawn of the races, the dawn of personality was also occuring.
Traits such as Kindness, Justice, Bravery, Patience, Integrity, Perseverance, Depression, and Determination were those that came to light amongst humans.
Monsters, whilst their souls only had one category (Monster), treated those traits listed as infections.
Monsters could literally spread those like Kindness. Patience. Bravery. Depression.
Anyhow, long ago, the two races were living in harmony, as equals.
One day, a small dispute, grew into a war.
The war lasted for several years, until one day, an offense by the humans succesfully eliminated all senior Monster officials.
The humans were about to finish the Monster race off, until, they realized that the Monsters were nothing without their leaders.
The humans showed mercy.
The Monsters were sent into the underground. They would starve without leading roles.
14 Humans, and one dog volunteered to lead the Monsters into the underground.
The last sorcerers of the human race put in precautions, and sealed the barrier with a magical spell.
They have not been heard from since.
Many years later...

A human child named Ras has scaled halfway up the mountain.
She has been overwhelmed by life, suffering from the parasitic soul trait Depression.
The weather outside is cold. Ras holes up in a cave.
As they are crawling, they extend their hand to move forward.
Their hand places on nothing, and they fall forward, into a seemingly never-ending hole.
The last thing Ras remembers seeing, is a bed of golden flowers rush towards them from below.
