Hi, this is my first fanfiction so please go easy on me. I just wanted to give a peek into their daily lives, nothing more.
I don't own the wonderful world and characters of Rurouni Kenshin, that all belongs to Nobuhire Watsuki, and to Jump.
Kenshin was worried, very worried. He had been beating out the futons with a conveniently placed bo when he noticed something thing strange. It was quiet, very quiet. It wasn't often the dojo was this quiet; in fact it was the quietest it had ever been since Yahiko had come.
Kenshin was finally becoming used to the idea of actually living somewhere. It seemed in his life that from that miserable day he was sold, to the day he met Kaoru-dono, swinging around her bamboo sword that he had never really had a home, the only place that came to mind when he thought of home was that little house in the countryside with Tomoe, but with Kaoru-dono it was more like she pushed the thought that this was his home and that he needed no other.
Kenshin had been wandering for ten years, and had met a very large number of people, but none like Kaoru-dono, and here was one thing he thought he knew about Kaoru-dono. She was loud, it wasn't something she tried to be. It was just like she just couldn't live in the background she had to be there in everything. It was one of the things he loved about her. So he had unconsciously got use to the hustle and bustle
So why was it that on a day where little Yahiko and Kaoru-dono would usually be sparring and making the usual comforting racket, that it was so quiet?
Kenshin laid down the bo and walked into the dojo taking off his sandals as he went. Walking quickly on the smooth wooden floor that he had just cleaned yesterday, he noticed a slumped and huddled figure in the corner.
It was Kaoru-dono, she was crying! Kenshin didn't know whether this was the kind of crying that needed comforting or the kind that meant that you needed to be alone, but Kaoru-dono was crying softly no note of despair or horror just a soft sort of sadness. So Kenshin took all the wisdom of his twenty-eight years and decided that she just needed to be left alone for a while, but he would make her an extra special dinner tonight.
Later that evening, Kenshin, was setting down dinner when Yahiko burst in, "That smells great Kenshin! Kaoru sent me out to get tofu and I just got back, I say that I should get more food because I got the tofu for this week!" Yahiko said.
"Now, now, Yahiko," said Kenshin. "Yahiko, did you see Kaoru at all when you came in? I tried calling her for dinner but got no answer."
"I'm right here!" said Kaoru, bursting in on the scene, and plopping herself down with her usual amount of grace, "You can't get rid of me that easy."
"Hey, Kaoru where have you been?", Yahiko asked while shoving food into his mouth at an amazing rate.
"At my Father's grave, it's his memorial today." Kaoru answered, not looking down from her bowl.
Kenshin felt his heart constrict, so that was what she had been crying about! He looked at her slightly slumped shoulders, and tried to think of something that would cheer her. So he reached over and laid a hand on her messy, ponytailed hair.
"Kaoru-dono, I'm sure that you father is very happy right now, because you are happy. Am I right?" said Kenshin, watching with interest as her cheeks turned a happy pink.
"Yes I am Kenshin!"
Her smile was all the reassurance he needed.
A Review full of info and detailed criticism would be great, but simply saying if you like or not is enough.
