Warning: Those who hate the Pokemon anime, turn back now.

If anything, I like the current season of Pokemon. It's brought about some changes, and while not everyone will agree with them, it's still good to watch and see that they're stepping up their game a bit.

I believe Ash catches different Pokemon because he wants to challenge himself ever since Johto. It provides him with a fresh slate and chances to take on new trials with new Pokemon. I found Iris very quirky and fun initially, but as more episode focus on her air, she's starting to become something like her game counterpart (although she isn't as bland as her). Cilan isn't bad either. Pokemon Sommeliers sound like an interesting concept and with his growth, he's become a very popular character. Heck, he was popular ever since his debut.

I wanted Team Rocket to have a more serious role (or at least at the battling strength back when Max befriended a Ralts) because I felt there was potential for that and for Team Rocket in general. Of course, we can't forget the rivals. Trip is cool, Georgia and Burgundy provide competition for Iris and Cilan, I'm happy they got Bianca in, and Stephan proves to be a pretty cool guy.

I'm personally happy Hilda and Rosa didn't appear yet. I don't know what role they would've had, but granted, Unova doesn't have much in terms of miscellenous competitions. This allowed me to shape their personalities to my desires in my story and not use an anime incarnation of a protagonist as a character in a story. Hilbert and Nate will probably have cameo roles, but it's still the same deal as the female protagonists.

So, agree or disagree, I think the people who made the anime are improving this generation.
