Little Ball of Fur

Tony knew it was a bad idea letting Abby take Ziva to the animal shelter because underneath the hard-core former assassin exterior was a compassionate woman. A compassionate woman who would end up being smitten by one of the animals in the shelter leading to regular volunteer gig or them giving a portion of their incomes to the shelter each week.

He had been fully prepared for both of these options. But Ziva surprised him with a third and unthought-of of option. She had come home with a cat. The cat was black with white spots. It was sitting on the floor of their apartment making a mewing sound.

"You know when you called to tell me you were adopting a cat, I thought you were joking," Tony stated as Ziva stroked the kitten.

"Why would I joke about adopting an animal?" Ziva replied. The cat let out a loud purr.

"Why did you adopt a cat?" Tony countered.

"Because he has no home," Ziva responded, "And I like cats. It is a match made in heaven, yes,"

"Or hell," Tony replied.

"Do you not like him?" Ziva asked as the cat stretched out across the floor.

"Why this one?" Tony finally asked. "There were probably rows and rows of animals in that place."

"He was abused horrifically by his previous owners and if he was not adopted by tomorrow they would have no choice but to," Ziva paused, "to put him down," she uttered desperately trying to keep her composure.

Tony understood. He understood that she saw herself in the tiny ball of fur. He got down on the floor and looked at the cat. He held out his hand and stroked the cat. The little cat purred.

"I guess he can stay. But I get to name him."
