So He Won't Forget
It was seven in the morning in Canada and America had come over, in the process waking up his brother and bear, Kumajiro. Begrudgingly, Canada made pancakes while Kumajiro and America sat at the table; America talking about everything while Canada would nod or say something every so often. Soon breakfast was on the table and America began to dig on.
"I'm going to get dressed," Canada announced.
Kumajiro looked up from his pancakes. "Who are you?" he asked.
"I'm Canada," he replied dryly though with a smile and he left.
America paused in his eating to look at the bear. "Why don't you ever remember his name? You always forget even though he gives you everything," America said; truly curious.
Kumajiro looked up at him. "So he doesn't forget," he replied.
America stifled a gasp, shocked. "What?" he asked.
Kumajiro smiled sadly. "No one ever notices him and if they do then they call him Matthew or your name. If I don't ask, how will he remember he's Canada?" the bear asked before returning to his pancakes.
America stared at the suddenly wise bear when then Canada walked in, dressed in jeans and a blue button up. America watched as his brother served himself some pancakes and poured syrup on them.
"Hey Canada," America said suddenly; his tone serious and slightly sad.
Canada looked at his brother surprised by his tone and name; he was usually Mattie. "Y-yeah?" he asked.
America smiled brightly. "I love your country and I love you bro," he replied happily.
Canada's eyebrow rose with an amused smile. "I love you too brother," he replied.
"Okay but promise you'll never forget or I'll have to kidnap Kumajiro," America warned.
Canada could help but laugh at the silliness. "Okay I promise brother," he laughed.
The two shared a laugh and continued with breakfast; America was content. He would let his brother forget either.
