A RAINBOW PROMISE
An Inuyasha short story
A/N:
I've recently dove back into the feudal era and have been binge watching the series/movies again. I hold this anime close to my heart and always come back to watch and obsess every few years. But how overjoyed was I when I peeked back into and saw Inuyasha is still a popular FF? You can probably imagine my excitement. I looked over my old works and found this abandoned fic. I always knew what I had planned for this short story but I never had the opportunity to finish until now. I wanted to keep the authenticity so the first two chapters were mildly edited to fit my liking. So here we go.
It's an AU & non-canon short story that will most likely have a sequel. I'm kinda re-doing the whole KōgaAyameLunarRainbowEp so if you see familiarity, that's why.
Disclaimer: I do not own the Inuyasha universe. Somebody brilliant beat me to it. I just like to play with the characters.
Warning: Written with some foul language others may find offensive. Read with caution.
It was mid-morning in a long forgotten forest, where the group was positioned; ready for battle. The wind shifted and hundreds of leaves brushed against the branches of the trees surrounding them. Kagome could feel the jewel shard closing in on them. The demon was close.
"Any moment now," Sango said holding her Hiraikotsu above her, ready to strike whatever came through the shadows. "I feel his demonic aura."
"I do as well, Sango." Miroku said coming up behind her and groping her bottom.
"Try to focus, you letcher!" Sango yelled, giving the monk a hard smack across the cheek.
Those two will never learn. Shippo thought with a roll of his eyes. But then again, neither will Kagome and Inuyasha.
"Where's the jewel shard, Kagome?" Inuyasha asked, clutching the hilt of his Tetsusaiga.
"How would I know, I can't see him!"
"So?"
"So, shut up and get ready. When I see it, I'll tell you!"
"Why you-" Inuyasha started but was interrupted as a roar escaped the snake demon who suddenly slithered into view.
Inuyasha pulled Tetsusaiga out of its sheath, transforming immediately. He stood protectively behind Kagome and smirked. "Bring it on, you bastard."
It wasn't much of a battle, as the snake demon was already weak to begin with. Inuyasha easily took him out with a few swipes of his sword, not even needing to use the Wind Scar. He didn't hide his disappointment as he sulked, while and the jewel shard was purified by Kagome.
"Well that was a complete waste of my time."
"Not completely. At least we got another jewel shard to add to the collection." Kagome said, adding it to the tiny bottle wore on a string around her neck.
"Feh!"
"Hey, look! It's starting to rain!" Shippo pointed to the sky peeking out from the tree branches as large drops began to fall from the sky.
They agreed to seek shelter under the largest tree nearby. Except for Inuyasha, who did not agree. Of course it wouldn't have bothered him. After all, he was a strong, courageous, fierce demon! But Kagome insisted on waiting out the rain, and serving breakfast her mother had sent an hour earlier.
"I don't see how a little rain is gonna hurt you, Kagome." Inuyasha muttered as he took a rice ball in his hand and stuffed it in his mouth.
"Some of Gramps's excuses for why I'm not in school are going to come true if were not careful." She warned, dreading the bizarre diseases Gramps always made up while she was gone five hundred years into the past to company a temperamental half demon to gather the shards of the Shikon No Tama, that she accidentally broke.
"Yeah? Like what?" Inuyasha asked, suddenly curious.
"Well.. A bladder infection that could turn into a kidney infection for one, that's caused from sitting in damp places and no-" She stopped short, suddenly feeling embarrassed.
Inuyasha stopped chewing. He had never given much thought to Kagome's health, but this bladir infectshin could be serious, so he silently allowed her to continue sheltering under the thick tree branches.
An hour later the rain stopped but the sky didn't clear up; the clouds lay close together and were dark and cold. Miroku informed them that the rain would begin again, but Inuyasha was running out of patience.
"Why are we waiting for it to start up again? We should be going now. The jewel shards ain't gonna collect themselves y'know."
"Inuyasha, have a heart. Can't you see Sango has a cold?" Shippo munched, still eating the left overs from the others' breakfast.
"Sango don't got no cold." Inuyasha barked, looking at Sango who looked perfectly fine.
"Well she will if we go out in this, so will Miroku and Kagome!"
"Feh, weak ass humans. I don't have time for this."
"Well your going to have to," Miroku said peeking out from the branches and looking up towards the sky. "Like I predicted, its starting to come down again."
"Fuck this. Were leaving." Inuyasha said with a stamp of his foot.
"Were staying!" Kagome challenged, getting fed up with his overly bossy attitude today.
"You can stay, Kagome. Everyone else is leaving. We have to-"
"We have to collect the shards and defeat Naraku." Kagome said imitating Inuyasha in a whiny voice.
"Don't mock me, wench."
"Or what? Will you just relax and sit down!" Kagome yelled without realizing she had used the command, sending Inuyasha plunging to the ground.
"Yewfukinbitch" Inuyasha grumbled in the dirt.
Kagome sat up and walked over him and stood in the rain, fuming. "Inuyasha, you are such a jerk!"
"Me? Your the one who just put me in the ground!" Inuyasha yelled, standing up in a flash and holding his fist up. The better to stand up and scream in her face then lay in the dirt and mumble like an idiot.
"See? Your always thinking about yourself!"
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
"Am not!"
Sango, Miroku and Shippo all sighed at the same time. Clearly they were used to these daily fights by now. After all, they had been traveling together for quite some time now.
"Who do you think will win?" Shippo asked. He stared wide eyed at the two who repeated the same words over and over again.
"Kagome of course." Miroku said.
"Yes, with her sit spell Inuyasha is powerless." Sango noted.
"Unless he makes her cry, or tells her she's worthless like usual." Shippo muttered, recalling the ongoing fights before.
"Then she'd sit him for sure." Miroku chimed in, putting his arms behind the kitsune and the demon slayer. "So either way, Kagome wins!"
The end of the conversation was lost forever because the three friends didn't have a chance to hear what Inuyasha said that made Kagome turn three shades of color; starting with pink, then red, and ending with a ripe purple. Inuyasha lurched back, about to take off before she lost it but he wasn't quick enough. He made it about two feet before the trees echoed.
"INUYASHA, SIT BOY! SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT BOY!" Kagome shrieked before stomping off into the forest, rain sizzling off the flames that surrounded her.
Miroku, Sango, and Shippo stared at the hole Inuyasha was laying in, his hands and feet poked out in a position that looked extremely uncomfortable.
"She definitely won this round." Shippo said quietly.
