In a castle surrounded by mountains, there lived a beautiful maiden named Seraphina. She had thick dark hair and deep violet eyes.

One day, her fiancé, Marcus, gave her an enchanted necklace with a crystal pendant that would keep them both young forever. It was also the gift he gave her as he left for Rome to do business. She waited for days and days. She was so saddened that she only stayed in the tower room, away from prying eyes.

As she fell asleep that night, a horde of thieves ransacked the palace and carried of all the gold and kidnapped all of Seraphina's servants.

They never saw Seraphina though because she was silent all throughout the night. She didn't leave the tower room for centuries. She often looked out the window and she saw her once grand gardens turn into wasteland. She never forgot about Marcus and she knew that he was alive as long as she wore the enchanted necklace.

She decided to venture down into the castle again and she found it empty and devoid of life. She wandered aimlessly through the halls for another century waiting for Marcus to return.

Meanwhile, Marcus was lost in the wilderness. He knew he was near the castle. He felt he was near Seraphina. For years he had thought that Seraphina had died when he heard of a group of thieves ransacking her castle and since then the few thickets of trees that had surrounded the castle had overgrown into a dense jungle. The jungle Marcus was now trying to navigate through.

He had figured out that Seraphina must still be alive when he remembered that he gave her the enchanted necklace that kept them both young. He whacked through vines by day and slept in caves by night. He had hoped that one day he would find Seraphina again.

Not long after, he reached the castle's withered garden. He boldly ran to the castle but he could not open the heavy wooden door. He called for Seraphina and she appeared at the third floor balcony. He was so happy to see her and he quickly climbed the trellis beside the balcony.

When Marcus was halfway up the trellis, the trellis started to wobble. Seraphina reached out her hand but she couldn't reach him. The trellis was swaying violently and Marcus couldn't hold on much longer. He would die if he fell from that height.

In desperation, Seraphina unclasped her necklace and was careful to hold it tightly and she lowered the thick chain down. Marcus grabbed hold of it and pulled himself up. He was inches away from the balcony railing when the chain snapped and Seraphina and Marcus fell down and hit the flagstones with a soft thud. The crystal pendant of the enchanted necklace shattered and the two lovers turned to dust in each other's arms.
