True Love
"Jack where did you go my friend
Oh Jack, this can't really be the end.
Why can't you stay and play a game
Why can't things just stay the same?
I think that even the moon knows
I will wait for the next snow
Until we meet again."
"What are you singing sweetie?" A voice called out. The young girl with light brown hair looked to her and smiled softly.
I'm singing to Jack…" She said softly. "That way he won't forget about me…" She looked down to the cold frozen lakes depths. The shadow blocking everything from sight. Even though she couldn't see him, she could feel his presence there. A weak smile slipped upon her face as he dazed off into the darkness.
The mother felt worried for her child. She had been so distant after his death. She worried she felt guilt for what had happened. She had been depressed for so long. Now every time she see's that lake, she became like this. The mother walked over to her and knelt down.
"How about we go get some things to make a cake? You can choose whatever kind you like." "Okay mom, I'll be there in one moment." She said softly as she looked to her. She watched her mom leave, then looked to the lake again. She sang the song one last time before rushing after her mom.
For years afterwards, she came back every winter night and stood by the lake. She would go and sing her song to her long lost brother over and over again as she slept. She took her children and her grandchildren with her to sing the song.
Upon her last day alive, she slipped out of the house with one of her grandchildren. She sat down in her usual spot and began to sing. Her voice was shaky and weak. Her works as strong as gold. She couldn't hold the notes out as long, but it didn't take away from the beauty of the song.
"Jack where did you go my friend
Oh Jack, this can't really be the end.
Why can't you stay and play a game
Why can't things just stay the same?
I think that even the moon knows
I will wait for the next snow
Until we meet….."
Then she fell silent. Her body became limp and she closed her eyes. Her body was slowly began to get cold. Her grandchild cried as she ran over to her. She check to make sure she was okay. But she was gone. She ran off and got help. When the family came to help, they all paused in surprise. Upon her face was a loving smile. Knowing how deeply she loved that spot, they buried the young girl under the largest tree beside the lake. That was what she always wanted. That way she could watch over that spot for her brothers return. That way she could meet him again and thank him properly for saving her all those years ago.
A year later, Jack awoke from his slumber. He floated out of the frozen water below and stood upon the ice once again. He blinked a bit as he looked about. He didn't remember who he was… Something told him to look up at the moon. Jack Frost. That's all he knew. He went about the town to find someone to talk to, but nobody could see him. Instead, they phased right though him. He was shocked. Feeling hurt, he returned to the lake. Something about it made him feel more secure. More safe. He could tell this was his home and he always had a place here, as if someone was waiting. Watching for his return. Though he didn't directly see it, he thought he saw someone from the corner of his eye. A young lovely woman with a big smile on her face.
He hoped one day he'd figure out whose spirit it was always welcoming him home from his daily adventures. Till then, he enjoied the feeling. He floated over to a tree and closed his eyes. He felt a set of warm arms holding him as he slept and a faint voice echoed quietly within his ear. "\
"Thank you for everything… I love you…"
