Also, please be aware that this is sad. I was feeling a bit depressed when I wrote it - if people like the idea, I might make it into a full blown fanfiction, but for now, it is just a short one shot of about 400 words.

Don't you fret, I don't feel any pain. A little fall of rain, can hardly hurt me now…

The shot rang through the darkness and Dean scrambled forwards, already dreading what he would find. He fell upon the body of Sam, tears welling up and streaming from his eyes.

"Sammy!"

The strangled voice that ermerged from his throat was a terrible sound. Castiel stood, silent and still – watching as the man he loved, embraced the still body of his own brother. Blood pooled around the boy – soaking both his clothes and Deans. But he did not care.

The rain, seeming to sense the despair of the man crouched on the ground, clutching the fallen hunter, increased the strength of its downpour. Drowning out all other sounds but the water hitting the ground.

Dean lowered his head and kissed the top of his brothers. How could this be true? This wasn't supposed to happen. Why did he never listen to him? The brother sat outside in the rain, head bowed and hands clutching Sam's jacket. Unable to let go and part ways with it – his last memory of the brother he had, and the life that Sam could have led, had Dean not returned to him.

Once more, he looked up and saw the angel watching him from the forest ahead.

"Why" Dean whispered. "Why Sammy? Why me?"

Castiel remained silent, eyes full of sorrow for this beautiful man who faced so much pain and hurt that he was damaged within. If only he could save him from himself. But he could not.

He stepped back, closing his eyes, then disappeared. The rain filling the spot he where he had been stood the moment before.

And rain will make the flowers grow
