A/Ramble: I'm sorry, this popped into my head while wading out into reeds to retrieve my fishing hook and - as I've told my beta - I like to share. Please: Enjoy!

~ Compromise ~

"I can't do it," Sam shook her head adamantly.

"Carter..." Jack growled lowly.

"I'm serious. I am physically incapable."

"I'll make it an order."

"And I will refuse that order. Loudly."

Jack blinked beneath his brown cap. She really was serious.

"Really?" He can't believe her.

"I can't stab worms. Or shrimp. Sorry Jack, but you'll have to live with it and bait my lines." Sam folds her arms petulantly and if Jack wasn't so surprised, he'd have found it cute.

Jack turned to stare blankly out over the water. "I don't know if I can..." A wet sinker and hook land in his lap. Being the good... whatever he is, he grudgingly baits the line. Partner? Significant other? Boyfriend... He shuddered at the designation. Fishing buddy. Perfect.

"Thank you," Sam chirps too cheerily.

"Were you always this much of a girl?" He grumbles. His question is met with silence and he glances at her expression that clearly asks him if he did indeed just ask her that.

"The worms did nothing to me. They're better off in my garden."

"They're better off taunting fish."

"For that, I'll use fake worms."

"Fake worms?" Jack was truly horrified now. Maybe he should have never invited Sam fishing... who was he kidding? He deliberately tossed the still wiggling worm on a hook into her lap.

"Yep." Sam grinned as she cast the line out into the fishless pond.

"Will you hook them yourself?" Jack asks, the sarcasm clear.

"Uh huh." Sam nods, now all but ignoring him. He wonders if this is some kind of test; making him compromise. Jack had to hold back at the disgruntled pursing of his lips.

This relationship was going to be hard.

That is all. I'm only doing oneshots while two chapters are still in beta mode. I'm bored. Hopefully I won't overrun the archive. Although that may be fun. For the record: I use fake worms and shrimp while fishing. My only girlie vice. Warning: I think I write a lot of oneshots... Hmm.
