Author's Note: Hi guys ^_^ I hope you enjoy my first fanfic!

This was inspired by an Evanescence song: Field of Innocence.
(Brownie points to anyone who finds the lines I used!)

Leaning against the doorframe, I watched as Ed sat playing at his piano. Listening closely, I noticed that he kept playing the same tune in a sort of loop. Bouncing over, I sat down next to him before nudging him gently with my shoulder. "What you playing?"

Stopping, he dropped his hands into his lap and stared at the piano's keys for a moment before turning towards me on a sigh. "I felt his warmth."

Raising my eyebrow and scrunching my nose, I peered at him. "I don't understand Ed, what are you talking about?"

"I was at Bella's earlier today and he was there." Sighing, he stood and walked to stand at the window, staring out blindly.
"The three of us were in the kitchen, Bella doing all the talking until she left to get something in her room. And that's when he turned to me, grabbing me by my elbow and dragging me outside. I don't really remember what he said . . . all I could think about was the spot on my arm where he had grabbed me. It's one thing knowing that the shapeshifters are a lot warmer than humans but it is something else to experience that warmth first hand."

After that he seemed to lose himself in his thoughts, his right hand rubbing gently over the spot where Jacob must have grabbed him. "So you felt his warmth? I don't understand the significance."

"It has been many years since I have last felt such warmth Alice. I still remember the sun, always warm on my back as I sat reading to my mother." He paused long enough to run a hand through his hair.
"When he held my elbow, it was just like that . . . the warmth starting in one spot and slowly working its way through me until my entire body was warmed up . . . I never thought I'd ever experience that again, being a vampire and all." Clearing his throat, he turned and grinned ruefully at me.
"It was so completely unexpected . . . I guess that is why it bothered me so much." After glancing at his watch, he made his way towards the door.
"I should go, Bella is expecting me. See you later Alice."

Alice had her own ideas about what had really bothered Edward, and she took the fact that her brother had, unconsciously, rubbed that spot on his elbow again as he walked out of the room, as confirmation.

Another author's note: Could you please review this and tell me where I can improve? Or even just whether you liked it or not?

Thanks! 3
