Eris & Psyche
Chapter 1 – A Deadline Nears
"Alright, Spring Cleaning is finished!" Twilight declared cheerfully. "What's next on the list Spike?"
Spike set down the quill holder he was feverishly shining, to consult a very long to do list. "Well, we've organized the books, swept under the bed, polished the door knobs…" Spike continued to ramble off the completed tasks for another five minutes before he finally came to the end. "… it looks like the last thing to do is 'Find a date for the Hearts & Hooves Social'." Spike looked up at Twilight expectantly ready to receive his next set of instructions.
Twilight, however, was not listening. "Uh-huh, double check the list… check, find a date for Hearts & Hooves Social." It was then the words finally sunk in and Twilight's eyes shot wide open. "A DATE FOR THE HEARTS & HOOVES SOCIAL?!" She squeaked, dashing to her wall calendar. "It's that time already?"
Twilight was filled with a cold fear. She had forgotten to get a date! What if there was no one left? What if there were ponies left but they didn't want to go with her? What if they did want to go with her but she was late to meet them? What if! What if! What if!
Twilight looked like she was about ready to crack, but Spike noticed the change in her and acted accordingly. "Why don't you go with your friends? No one said you had to bring a romantic date." Twilight became thoughtful at the baby dragon's sage advice. "You're right Spike! I'll just see if the girls want to go together." Twilight immediately relaxed from her near frenzied state and went to make a to do list of all the things that had to be done before she asked her friends to go with her.
Several hours later, Twilight was trotting towards Sugar Cube Corner when she was accosted by a flying tackle from Rainbow Dash. "Oh hi Twilight! Didn't see you there!" Twilight felt immediately annoyed by being knocked over, but Dash's friendly manner melted any irritation away.
"Hi Rainbow Dash, you were just the pony I was looking for. " Twilight informed her while getting back on her feet and shaking the road dust out of her mane. "Did you want to go with me and the girls to the Hearts and Hooves Social?" Twilight grinned expectantly, but her smile started to slip when Dash wouldn't meet her eyes.
"Actually… I was planning on inviting Soarin to the dance…" Dash looked extremely uncomfortable and fidgeted as if she was ready to take wing at any moment. Twilight reached out and patted her friend on the back. "It's alright Dash, I'll see you there." Dash looked mildly relieved before bolting away in a rainbow flurry.
