"Tired and my eyes tied shut, I fidgeted in bed. The covers were itchy and didn't provide much warmth but I couldn't afford more. My dream, albeit shitty, job mixed with student loans didn't lend itself to much. But there was something that kept me.
"Mmf stop moving," he said as I brushed my arm against his beautiful pale skin. Jack. We both had our secret lives which made both of us irritable but for him it was a little worse. He was a villain and I was a hero. His flaming red hair and black pyjamas contrasted my dull brown locks and simple underwear. But how was I to know how quickly this idealistic life would change?
"Jack shuffled awkwardly out of bed, attempting and failing to not kick me. He grumbled and slowly put his long jacket back on along with his goggles. They suited him so well.
"Jack, can't you stay longer?"
"Sorry. I just.. I just know," he paused "Today. I'm gonna get the Shen Gong Wu." Despite saying this every morning, it didn't make it any less cute.
"Okay, honey… You sure you don't want me to come with you?" I said, muffled slightly by my paper thin pillow.
"… You're a hero, Spiderman. I can't ask you to do that." He turned away from me mid-sentence to lace up his boots.
"You didn't need to ask. I'll help any way I can. And I told you. Call me Peter," I smiled. He glanced at me then stiffly turned away but slow enough for me to see his cheeks fill with colour.
"But things changed quickly. Later that day, we actually managed to get it. I distracted the Xiaolin warriors while he took it, and we actually did it. Despite talking about it so often, I don't think Jack actually thought he could do it. He stayed oddly quiet as we took it back to our apartment. But something happened. Something that changed our lives forever…
