The bullet flew straight towards her; my cries were lost in the battle

The tears have fallen, the wounds healed over, yet the memory never forgotten.

The bullet flew straight towards her, the smoking gun aimed at her chest; my broken cries were lost in the battle. No-one heard me call out to her, as the shot ripped its way through her organs, twisting through her flesh, destroying her body in a second.

I watched as her face twisted in pain, drowning in my screams as she fell through the bright sky, blonde hair streaming behind. Eyes closed, as she accepted her fate, wings twisting in the sky. I flew as fast as I could, but she hit the ground before I could even get close.

I choked back the sobs that threatened to engulf me. Her broken body lay on the dampened ground, wings crushed underneath her, neck twisted in an unnatural angle. Her face was completely drained of colour, all life taken from her body. No breath had escaped her mouth; no tears had fallen from her eyes. My fallen angel lay still in death.

The tears began to stream uncontrollably down my face; I pressed my fist against my mouth to quieten my screaming.

I waited in silence as the others landed at lightning speed, crashing through the trees; my body had long gone numb, I couldn't hear anything. They tried to pull me away when I refused to move from her corpse. Their please fell silently. They left me alone after a short time; I stroked her hair gently, my warm tears burning her skin. Singing a lullaby from the past.

We buried her the next day; I was the last to say good-bye. I was shaking, consumed by guilt;

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't there to save you, it's all my fault…" I choked; my tears falling through the earth, I hoped they reached her, I prayed she could feel how sorry I was; I hoped they fell through the earth to where she was. In a six foot hole, one foot for every year.

Sorry, I just wanted to repost this, I attempted to improve it…
