Cloud never really seemed vulnerable.
Not even when Zack caught him getting bullied by the other cadets. Cloud didn't even appear weak as he stood proudly with narrowed eyes, surrounded by people a head taller than him. He just fought or ran, and licked his wounds somewhere else.
So when he had brought Cloud along with him to visit family in Gongaga, he had never suspected Cloud to get motion sickness of all things.
Yet there they were, on the side of the road, with Cloud puking his guts out.
"You should have said something!" he told Cloud when he stopped retching. Cloud gave him a incredulous stare before he started puking again.
Zack should have guessed that Cloud would never admit to weakness.
He sighed, rubbing Cloud's back until his dry heaving stopped. ". . . didn't want to cause you trouble," Cloud muttered after a beat of silence, and then it was Zack's turn to stare incredulously. "Seriously, kid?"
Cloud glared at him weakly for using the word kid, but didn't deny it.
Zack should have guessed that Cloud would never admit to weakness, if only so as not to inconvenience others. Because Cloud was like that, he would deal with his problems on his own, and not say a word about it. He would never tell his friends what troubled him, because he didn't want to worry others.
Zack sighed, "Come on, I've got a Chocobo Lure."
". . . Alright,"
But Zack could always guess.
