Who He Leaves Behind

Amy POV
I curled the blue paper over and over in my hands. The wrinkled article's number had a bright #2 on the front that was fading. The white print slowly rubbed and eroded off of the page. It was Rory who jerked me out of my reverie.

"You're as worried as I am, aren't you?" He stared straight ahead while he spoke, a stoic expression obviously masking inexplicable pain. Just like I was trying to do.. And failing miserably at.

Frustrated and angered, I balled up my fists and shoved the note into my pocket. But I quickly lost my rage; it wasn't Rory's fault. I sank deeper into the seat, just wanting to forget everything about The Doctor.

The sandy terrain whizzed by my watchful eyes, and the bright blue of the sky burned them as the started to flood down my cheeks. I bit my lip and reached across the seat. Through my tears, I held Rory's hand in mine.
"He'll fine a way."

Doctor POV
The Teselecta floor was hard and uncomfortable, and the amount of guilt pressing down on me was no help either. The look of disbelief and horror on their faces… It was almost too much to bear. I wanted to tell them that I was fine, but I couldn't. Not now.

I couldn't risk a temporal paradox, not even for my friends.

I could only watch as Amy sobbed over me, as she was dragged away from my seemingly lifeless body. She held on to Rory and cried into his shoulder in front of me. I could see and hear her mourning and all of the others'. It was enough helpless and needless pain to either break a heart, or to harden one. Well, sadly, both applied to me.

Eventually, they were only tiny specks in the distance, and I heard the captain give the all clear.
"Thank you Doctor. It was a pleasure being of service to you."
"Thank you Captain," was all I was able to say in return.

The TARDIS felt empty inside.
Nothing seemed the same. Maybe I would've been better off dead.
I thrust the brake into gear. The TARDIS responded with a groan that echoed through her empty halls. I stopped and ran my hands through my hair. A drop of water splashed onto the console, and I scraped my hand across my wet face. I've been told this before. You don't get attached to companions. It only brings you pain.. Take Rose…
"Shut up!" I had to do it!" I shouted.
"SHUT UP!"
With that, I collapsed onto the console and let my TARDIS take me where I needed to go.
