A/N – So I was bored and I thought I'd write this silly, fluffy little oneshot, because it's unbearably hot and seriously cloudy where I am right now and I love Klaine. Not that I'm especially happy with it, but I really am bored. I stole the title from Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T's. Sadly, I own nothing. Not even Darren Criss. But I'm working on that one. Enjoy.
It was one of those unbearable nights; the sort where the darkness seems to radiate heat and the stars seem stifled by the warmth. Kurt Hummel was flat on his back in bed. The sheets were kicked to the bottom of the bed, his pyjamas lay discarded on the floor, and his face wore an expression of pure irritation. 'Just go to sleep,' he urged himself. He lay there, unsure of what to do. He'd tried counting sheep. He'd tried singing to himself. He'd tried everything. Suddenly, his phone vibrated loudly on his side table, startling him. He picked it up to see a text from Blaine.
Are you awake?
He smiled slightly. He'd spent all day with Blaine, and somehow, it still wasn't enough. He typed a message back quickly.
No, it's far too hot to sleep.
He sent it, and his phone had barely touched the table when it went off again. Except this time it was ringing. He pressed the accept call button and held the phone to his ear.
"Hello?" he whispered.
An equally hushed voice replied, "Hey baby."
"Can't sleep?" Kurt enquired.
"No," Blaine said with a sigh. "I'm sat on my windowsill with the windows wide open, looking at the stars. I like to look at the stars at night. They're the same stars that you're looking at."
Kurt felt a wave of happiness zip through him. "That's adorable," he said, climbing up onto his windowsill and looking out. "I'm looking at the stars now too."
Blaine's smile was evident, even over the phone. "They remind me of your eyes. The way they sparkle."
Kurt blushed. "I will never get tired of hearing you say things like that."
"You deserve it," Blaine responded, before unexpectedly yawning loudly. "God, I'm so tired."
"Go to sleep then," Kurt suggested, biting back his own yawn. Come to think of it, he was really tired too. He sensed Blaine's hesitation and spoke quickly. "I'm going to bed again now anyway."
"I love you," Blaine said softly.
Kurt smiled. "I love you too."
They ended the call, and Kurt flopped back onto his bed. Sure, it was still a hot, sticky night, thick with the sweat of most of Ohio. But all of a sudden, it seemed so much better, and sleep overtook Kurt with seconds.
