It's been so long since I wrote anything PJO. A quick thing I wrote to celebrate the recent passing of same-sex marriage in the US.
The demigods of Camp Half Blood stood transfixed, eyes trained on the single TV in the entirety of Camp Half Blood (at least that Chiron was aware of). The Big House was practically bursting with demigods, every single person was adorned with something rainbow. Shirts, socks, face paint, hair, flags draped over shoulders. Many couples held each other close, hoping.
There was a sudden shout from the back of the room. A very tired looking Nico was being supported by Will Solace. "Turn on Channel 4!" He yelled. Chiron hurried to change the channel, just in time to see a wide pan of the rainbow flag outside the Supreme Court. A grinning newswomen was being jostled by the screaming crowd. "It's true every one! The Supreme Court has ruled that same-sex marriage is a legal right in all 50 States, a 5-4 decision!"
The rest of the woman's speech was drowned out by the cheers of the gathered demigods. Lou Ellen was crying, Miranda Gardner was screaming as she waved her flag. Will Solace was yelling as he clutched a grinning Nico. Connor Stoll laughed as the confetti he had thrown fell over everyone's heads. A daughter of Athena, Adria, was on one knee in front of her girl friend, Leah. Everyone was applauding them.
Chiron looked at everyone, all of their faces alight with joy, smiles bright enough to rival even Apollo's ego.
"Seems like these Americans finally did something right." Mr D. said from his position next to him. "The Greeks had this stuff figured out a long time ago."
Chiron grinned as he nodded. "I fear you may be attacked if you say that." Mr D. grunted. "I wish the others could have seen this."
So many demigods had fought and died without ever knowing the news. The kids gathered there, cheering, finally had something good. Chiron smiled again. "The campfire is going to be fun tonight."
