Enchanted
"Chad, there's a party for all of the shows this weekend!" Portlyn exclaimed, running into my dressing room.
"Okay." She looked at me expectantly. "Are you actually thinking that I'm going to go?"
"Sonny will be there!" Portlyn said. My heart skipped a beat when she said that, but I of course couldn't let that show.
"I care, why?"
"Because you like her? Look, all I know is that you love being around her and that you should go! Because guess what the theme is?" Guess…it's like that time I played that guessing game with Sonny…er, right.
"What?"
"Fairytales! And in fairytales Prince Charming, that's you, always finds true love's kiss! Like that movie, Enchanted!"
"Wow, Portlyn," I said walking towards her as she walked backwards. "That sounds really fun. Maybe I should go, you know, just so that I have some
fun." By this time she was already out the door, so I closed it. Maybe I should go.
I walked into the already raging party. Portlyn ran up to me.
"She's over there!" she said excitedly.
"Uh, thanks, Lyn," I said. I walked to where her friends Rainy and Cloudy were standing.
"Rainy, Cloudy," I said indifferently.
"Chad," they said simultaneously. I somewhat glared at them when the DJ started talking.
"This is gonna be a slow one, for all you couples out there." I almost laughed when he said that, but I realized that in all of the other shows, they were all dating. I had no one to dance with, when Sonny came up.
"Hey," she said.
"Hey," I replied. "Do you want to dance?"
"Um, sure," she giggled. I grabbed her hand and we started dancing.
"This is nice," she said while we were dancing.
"I have my moments," I replied arrogantly. She slapped me lighty with her pale hand. "What?"
"Don't be so cocky," she exclaimed.
"You know me too well not to know that I'm a naturally cocky person," I countered. She looked at me, surprised.
"You ruined the moment, Chad."
"No I didn't. You are the one who brought it up."
"You know, I thought you had a nice side to you. Maybe I was wrong."
"I do have a nice side. It somehow shows up when I'm around you."
"If you hate it so much, why do you hang around me?"
"Because I feel like it."
"Seriously."
"Because somehow, when you came, I became attached to you. And I let you in my walled area, and then I started to care about you." I pulled away from her embrace. "I guess that was a big mistake." I felt tears welling up in my eyes. I ran outside and sat on the steps.
"Chad?" her soft voice said.
"What?" I snapped.
"Why was that a mistake?" I could hear her voice start to crack. "I don't want it to be a mistake."
"It was a mistake because I let someone break down my walls only to have them attack me." My voice cracked. "I just don't want that to happen again."
"It doesn't have to be the same with me!" she insisted.
"I was too broken to believe that."
"Believe it now!"
"I'm not ready."
"Really? Because I think you can be." I looked into her eyes as she spoke.
"You're wrong." And then I kissed her. She looked up surprised.
"I think I win this one." Then we got up and walked into the party again.
"I think you won too."
Final score: Chad-8, Sonny-3
