Hey everyone. Glad you took the time to read this. ~SilverWindFaiirie
The court of Tortall, or rather, part of it, was at Pirate's Swoop for Midwinter. Lady Alanna had told her squire Neal to invite all his friends to come visit, regardless of if their knight-masters were coming.
Queen Thayet of Tortall looked up from the papers she was reading. Nealan of Queenscove stood in the doorway, looking nervous.
Thayet looked at him. He was shivering, and was barefoot. "What are you doing here at two in the morning?" she asked. "It's very cold, you've been probably walking on cold stone all the way here, and you're not dressed to be walking around."
"I know it's crazy to be walking around at this hour, dressed like this," he looked down at his bathrobe and bare feet, "but I need to talk to you."
"Why?" Thayet asked. "Is it so important that it simply could not wait until proper morning hours?"
"Well," Neal began, "I'll tell you, and you can tell me if it's something you'd have wanted me to wait to tell you."
"Fair enough," Thayet told him, putting her pen down and leaning back in her chair. "Tell."
"Well, I went to see Lady Alanna tonight, after dinner, like she told me to," Neal began, "Baron George said that she was waiting for His Majesty to come, and she was in the library. So I went and looked for her."
"Continue," Thayet told him when Neal stopped.
The castle was in chaos when Kel, Merric, Owen and Kally came in.
"What in Minthors's name." Owen began. He never finished what he was saying.
Lord Wyldon and Lord Raoul came down the hall at a run.
"Jesslaw," Lord Wyldon barked. "Come with me."
"Kel, I need your help now. Meet me in my quarters in five minutes. Bring as many of your friends as you can find, Merric, Neal, Roald, Cleon, Sever, anyone who isn't so busy they can't be interrupted," Lord Raoul told his squire.
Kel looked at Kally and Merric. "Follow my Lord. Find whoever you can without going out of your way, and I'll be there soon."
The three of the split up. Kel raced up and down the halls, banging on her friends' doors, telling those friends she found to go to Lord Raoul's rooms, and tell other pages and squires they saw to go as well. She raced down the hall to Raoul's rooms. She'd found everyone she could. Turning the last corner to her knight master's rooms she saw Prince Roald standing against the wall.
"Roald," she called. "Please, go to Lord Raoul's rooms right away."
