This is my first attempt ever at a fan-fiction, so hopefully I achieved something by writing this.
A special thanks go to my best friend for making me do this more or less, its fun.
Anyone let me know if I should give it another go or just stop while I'm ahead though...

And obviously I don't own the X-Files or anything in it...

The 10th of September

The artificially cold air left her as she stepped smoothly out of the cab, giving the driver a generous tip since he saved her from breaking a sweat that much sooner.

Luck would have it that today of all days her car decided to quit on her. Today was only important to her she idly thought, and maybe to her partner. It marked their anniversary of becoming the partners that would go on to astound and challenge everyone, whether 'they' liked it or not.

Rushing up to the building, greeting those who glanced her way courteously, taking the elevator, briskly walking down the hallway.

As she reached for the cold doorknob, she could hear her partner cough suddenly, then spit something into the trashcan by the dull ping that soon sounded. Opening the door gently she could see him shoveling a handful of sunflower seeds pilled on his desk into his mouth, the sight not taking her by surprise at all.

"Hey Scully, I've been wondering when you'd show up. Its unlike you to be late, what happened?"

'Car trouble' was her simple response.

"Oh, well I could have given you a ride." With that said, he went back to reading the various case files strewn on his desk, hoping one would catch his eye and get them back out on the field sooner than later.

Booting up her computer, she silently wondered if he realized what the day's significance was.

As she turned her eyes to him swiftly, hoping to catch some meaningful difference in him, triggered by the day of this year, he turned his wise eyes up to meet her gaze, making her wish he was thinking the same as she was.

"Hey Scully", he slowly said, "do you know what the date is?"

'The tenth of September, why?' It was never a wise idea to get her hopes up she knew, but she just couldn't help it.

"Did you know that on this day in '77 the last person ever was executed using a guillotine in France? Some guy was stupid enough to think his 'working girls' wouldn't snitch on him about killing his old girlfriend. It never stops amazing me that not to many years ago we were using a dropping blade to get rid of the extra bad guys."

Nodding she began to rise, using the excuse of needing a drink of anything, just to recover from that statement that was so close but apparently so far. Promising to be back after a few minutes, she started down the hall.

Halfway there, her cell phone rang. Why is he calling me, I'm 10 steps away…'Scully.'

"Happy Anniversary partner"

Thank you for reading this whoever decided to.
