Prompt: Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus.

The feeling of tumbling through the shadows was not something either of them wanted to experience but he wasn't going to leave her, and she wasn't going to leave him. They would stay together, forever and always. That's how it would be. They had faith that they would get out alive and resume a happy, reliable relationship. As they fell, they felt a pang of doubt in their hearts.

It was dark. And cold. Within seconds, the two had slipped into the the ghost-like pit. At first, they weren't sure what to make of it. They were together. That was all that mattered at the moment. But that was before the thought hit them: they were falling into Tartarus. It wasn't just 'some place' spirits go to for punishment. There was no redemption. It was an outer darkness, like a black hole; a swirling chasm filled with despair. Once something was sucked in, there was a little to nothing chance of it ever escaping; and the couple knew that.

There was no way to describe it. There was a sensation of discouragement that hit them, tribulation, pain. It felt as if there was a fire beneath the two; red hot and burning, yet everything felt so cold. He looked into the sparks, expecting to see a man being tormented in flames. No matter how extravagant the blazing fire was, everything felt bitter, almost numb. She looked up. A plate of ice was displayed across the wall. The reflection of herself looked as if she was surrounded by darkness. She moved closer to it. Her immediate thought was to be compelled, but her body was forced to go nearer, as if she was drawn to it. Her eyes echoed an eternity of disappointments, failures, and regret...without ever having any hope.

His eyes dart towards her. He wanted to hold her, tell her everything would be okay. But he couldn't. He couldn't lie to her. But they had to get out. Was there even a way out? Would they be stuck there for the rest of their lives? That is, if they lived. Tartarus was filled with monsters. Everything imaginable. Everything the two dreamed of was right here, right now, right in front of their eyes. They were scared. Both of them were terrified. Niether one of them wanted it to show, for fear of thinking each other weak. Either way, they would still love the other. They were together. Nothing would break them apart.
