Author's Note: I know this first chapter is short, but I wanted to get your guys' opinion about whether or not I should contuine. I like the idea, but I'm not sure. If you are reading Touched By An Angel, I'll update that as soon as I can. Enjoy, and happy reading!

Chapter One: Geekiness Controls Her Life

It wasn't like that Gabriella Montez hated being a geek.

Some of her friends were geeks, and she was okay with being a geek herself.

If only that were true, that is.

The only thing that made her a geek was math, and possibly science.

If that wasn't geeky, she didn't know what is!

It wasn't like she dressed, acted, or talked like a geek: she was pretty normal.

Except excelling at math and science, that is.

That's all she was ever known for at East High, and frankly, she was quite tired of it.

"Why do I get the impression that I'll forever be known as 'The Freaky Math Girl'?" Gabriella asked Taylor McKessie one Saturday night.

Taylor McKessie was a fellow nerdette alongside Gabriella, as well as Kelsi Nielsen, and they are sometimes accompied by Martha Cox, who would often join their lunch table from time to time.

"Well, let's face it: you are pretty good at math and science." Taylor explained, and Gabriella sighed.

"I want to be more than that! Just once, I don't want to be picked on because I'm a nerdette! Especially by Sharpay."

Sharpay Evans (along with her brother, Ryan Evans) ruled the school. She was dating Troy Bolton, the Wildcat captain, and Gabriella's not so secret crush.

"Sharpay picks on anyone who is a nerd." Taylor pointed out.

"Not everyone is a nerd, Taylor." Gabriella responded.

"Except for you, me, Kelsi, and Martha. Everyone is normal."

The word normal struck Gabriella.

What was normal anyway?

Being popular?

Not trying to fit in, and not following the crowd?

Her mother tells her she was normal, but Gabriella knew she wasn't.

She was just a nerdette.

Nerdettes don't go to parties.

They go to the library instead, and study.

"Maybe." Gabriella said.

"But, I got to go. See you tomorrow at school, okay?"

"Yeah. Good-night, Taylor."

The two friends signed off, and Gabriella was left to meddle with her thoughts again.

For once in her life, Gabriella wanted to be known as just 'another nerdette'.

Maybe, just maybe, she could be known as Troy's girlfriend, even if it was far-fetched, and he was dating Sharpay.

But, she knew that was just a dream, and Troy would never glance her way, even if he was in some of her classes.

If she didn't hang out with such geeks...

No!

Taylor, Kelsi, and Martha were her friends!

If they were geeks, so was she!

And she just have to accept the fact that she was, and forever, a nerdette.

But, first, she had to have someone show her that being a geek was okay.

It can't be one of her friends...

Maybe a certain, blonde-haired drama geek?
