Title: Remembrance
Summary: OK I probably do use remembered too many times but what the heck. The ending comes fairly quickly so be prepared. I think I ladle the sugar on a bit thick at the end! Could be all this football is adling my brain. This is un-betaed and probably shows!
Disclaimer: I checked and even though I just had a birthday nobody slipped CSI in with a card, so it still isn't mine.
Grissom remembered warm summer nights in Boston, and wine in yellow plastic cups. He remembered sitting for hours drinking cheap wine and talking about his love of forensics with a young Harvard student called Sara Sidle. He remembered her enthusiasm, her laughter and her quick wit. Most of all he remembered their easy friendship.
Sara remembered warm summer nights in Boston. She remembered meeting a young professor who had an enthusiasm for his profession that was contagious. She remembered his joy, his shyness and his love for his bugs. Most of all she remembered their easy friendship.
Grissom remembered a humid afternoon in Las Vegas. He remembered the phone ringing on his desk and hearing the news that Holly Gibbs had been shot. He remembered the shock of not knowing what to do, who to turn to. Then he remembered Sara.
Sara remembered a warm afternoon in San Francisco and the phone ringing on her desk. She remembered her joy at hearing from Grissom so unexpectedly. She remembered how worried she had been when she heard the shock in his voice. She remembered dropping everything and getting on a plane to Las Vegas.
Grissom remembered the joy of having Sara close again. He remembered the feeling he got whenever he looked up from his desk and saw her passing his office. He remembered her hand on his face and the look in her eyes. He remembered he threw it all away.
Sara remembered the joy of working with Grissom. She remembered the shared looks, the shared thoughts and movements. She remembered the touches, the gentleness and the laughter. She remembered the "No".
Grissom remembered the woman with Sara's face. He remembered the shock, the sadness and the frustration. He remembered why he couldn't do it. He remembered why he wanted to.
Sara remembered the strangeness of his behaviour. She remembered his confession, the sadness she felt and the frustration of his fear. She remembered his defeated face. She remembered her broken heart.
Grissom remembered that life does offer you second chances. He remembered that offering the hand of friendship can open the door to love. He remembered that barriers are there to be torn down.
Sara remembered the touch of his hand when she needed a friend. She remembered the feeling when she realised his fear had disappeared. She remembered his lips, his eyes and his words.
They both remembered all these things as they stood facing one another, surrounded by their friends. They remembered that they had found this love the hard way and that sometimes you have to lose sight of what's important before you actually truly see it. They promised that they would always remember.
The ceremony was over and as their friends began to clap a voice could be heard from the front pew.
"Mom, is this where they kiss?" Just as Sara and Grissom did exactly that. Whilst everyone else thought it was sweet and romantic, Lindsey's reaction was that of a typical teenager watching people she considered ancient kissing. "Ewww!"
