Karin started smoking when she was fifteen, because of a dare from one of her friends. It had been meant as a one-time thing, where she would prove that she could, and wasn't a coward, but it just grew from there. That one time turned into once a month , then into once a week, then she just started buying a pack of cigarettes every so often to keep in her back pocket with her phone.
She would hide in her bedroom- it was her fifteenth birthday present, because her twin was beginning to drive her nuts- and she would practice making rings of smoke, cursing out loud when she didn't do it right.
She tried weed once, and decided she didn't like it. She alreeady had one bad habit, she didn't need another.
She and Cahd had begun dating, and it wasn't until he'd kissed her that first time that anyone knew about it.
"You smell like smoke," He'd said, then they'd left her doorstep to go for a walk.
They must've been out for hours when Karin finally gave in, and handed over the stash she had on hand. They brushed off Ichigo's protests when Karin took him up to her room, and handed over the rest of her stash, secretly.
Karin later told Ichigo that he really didn't want that much detail as to why they were up there so long, and it wasn't that far from the truth. Karin had acouple cartons under her bed, which had turned into two months' supply instead of the six it used to be, and they spent the rest of the time discussing their plans for Friday night, and about ten making out before they heard Ichigo curse and begin stomping up the stairs.
Chad threw her stash out in the dumpster behind the 7-Eleven, then walked the two blocks back to his apartment.
The following Friday, Chad picked Karin up after school, and they hung out at the Starbucks.
"I need a smoke," Kairn had said while complaining about the stress of homework, and soccer.
Chad's glare made her think otherwise.
"I hope you know I only quit because you made me," Karin said when she got up to refill her coffe.
This came to me while reading some other Chad/Karin fanfics, and I actually opened up my word processor in the middle of one titled Ten Minutes. Hope you enjoyed!
