Just a Whisper

Disclaimer: NOT MINE. If I were Watsuki-sama, I would have better writing skills. But as you will soon see, I am no where near Watsuki-sama's level. This pathetic thing I call a semi-plot is all I own in this story.

The rain outside beat angrily against the windows of the Akabeko. With the wind blowing harshly and the trees whipping their branches furiously, Tsubame curled up into a small ball of warmth in the middle of the futon in her room. The storm had started so quickly that Tae didn't want Tsubame or Yahiko, who had been working at the time, to walk home on their own.

Yahiko had taken up residence in one of the separate party rooms while Tsubame took the spare room that Tae had in the back, along with her own personal room.

With her brown eyes wide open, the young waitress shivered in fear. She often got flashbacks, back to a time when she was alone. Even before she was abused and used. The time when she slept under the protection of a tree in a forest. Slamming her eyes shut, she felt a tear slide down her face. It was raining that day too. The day they left her on her own.

She whimpered in the darkness. She was alone.

A flash of lightning illuminated the sky. More tears slipped from between the eighteen year olds eyelids. She could still hear all the screams of pain. The smell of rain and tears filled her nose again and she cried even harder. Trying ever so hard to forget.

More lightning. A yelp escaped from her lips as she pressed her head further into her futon. She felt a kind hand brush the locks of hair that fell over her face. As the sweet smell of … something like honey, filled her nose, Tsubame opened her cinnamon eyes and looked up into Yahiko's handsome young face.

As Yahiko looked down at the beautiful girl in front of him, he saw emotions, so many emotions that she had never shown before. She was so vulnerable right then, with tear stained cheeks and her hands fisted tightly to her blanket. Brushing the pad of his thumb lightly over her cheek, he watched as Tsubame relax. Her eyes slipped close for a moment, when they opened it was accompanied by a sad smile. She allowed more tears to slip down her face unchecked. Sitting up she wrapped her arms around Yahiko's neck and buried her face into his neck.

Shifting so he could sit on the futon, Yahiko held one hand around Tsubame's lithe waist and used the other to pull the blanket around them. Rocking slightly he let his hand comb through her silky curtain of hair.

"It's alright, Tsubame. I'm here for you." He whispered into her ear. Placing a hesitant kiss on the top of her head, Yahiko watched as Tsubame slipped off into a sleep. Lying down and fixing the blanket back was all Yahiko could do before slipping off to sleep as well.

When Tae checked on them the next morning, she saw Yahiko with his arm around Tsubame in a half-hug and the girl with a smile on her face.

End.
