(A/N) We sand this song in Church this lovely Christmas morning, and the idea refused to go quietly. So it got written.

It's short. Sorry.

I miss the desert. It is cold on vacation.

Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays.

No pairings or warnings.

I do not own L or Matsuda or Light (who I wouldn't want anyway).

Yagami Light was not the type to sing, be the song cheerful or emo, and he found Christmas carols nothing short of inane and idiotic. Such words also applied to those who sung them.

L was not the type to sing, although he had been caught, at some point, humming a few bars from 'Just a Spoonful of Sugar' or 'Strawberry Fields.' However, he found holiday songs annoying, for they seemed to be unusually adept at lodging in his brain, and that was nothing but distracting.

Matsuda was the type to sing. Whatever the song, once he started, no one could shut him up.

It was Soichiro who started to play the Christmas music, right around the landmark Dec. 25th. Perhaps he was homesick; Matsuda had decorated the headquarters with garland and tinsel, although no one seemed to share their enthusiasm. Yet it was Light's pen that began tap-tap-tapping at his paper.

Noel, noel, nooel, nooeeel...

Wait a second...

And Kira sat up a little straighter, though he kept his eyes fixed on his work, waiting patiently for the chorus to come around again. When it did, he whispered the words along with the choir.

"Noel, noel... no L... no L..." His lips curled, ever so slightly, into the tiniest hint of that trademark Kira smile. "No L, no L...no L, no L...!"

And as L glanced over, out of the corner of his eye, he crunched down especially hard on his unfortunate panda cookie.

"Merry Christmas, Yagami-kun," he said levelly, eyes not blinking, concentration not wavering. The young suspect jumped.

"Merry Christmas, Ryuzaki," he answered, after a pause.

"Were you a good boy this year, Yagami-kun?" the former asked seriously, and the later blinked.

"Well, yes," he replied, raising his eyebrows. Then, he laughed lightly and added, "By some standards."

"Then I am sure Santa will bring you many gifts, Yagami-kun," L said, still without breaking character. And then he returned to his papers, his mind divided between Kira and Santa Claus, as well as the problem of how one man (and eight reindeer) might make it around the globe in one night. The last, he decided, was worth some thought.

(A/N) Pointless. Funny? Maybe? I don't know. Anywhos, Merry Christmas, Happy Whatever, and many blessings for what are left of the holidays. Leave me some reviews, they're my favorite stocking stuffers!
