A/N: Okay, so I would like to note that I have not watched very far beyond the Uchiha fight and Jiraiya's death. However, I heard the rumor that Itachi was brought back for nefarious purposes only to break free of the control over him, and that combined with something I saw, inspired this. Enjoy
She was on cleanup duty this week, which meant less 'picking stuff up to make it look tidy' and more 'finding the bodies of her fallen comrades'. It was horrible, but there was a lull in the fighting, and as a mednin, it was her duty to separate the dead, the dying and the ones she could save.
But today, she wouldn't be finding people she could save. Today, her heart kept breaking, over and over. She cried so hard over the body of Hinata, nearly as hard as she cried over Ino. She spent the entire morning crying, and so she was all cried up when she found the two of them.
Of course she had heard the rumors that Uchiha Itachi had been resurrected. And what was more, apparently he'd gone and freed himself from Kabuto's control. For Sasuke's sake. Yes, she had heard all about the tragedy that was the Uchiha family massacre, and the real reasons behind it.
And now here they were, these tragic brothers, and surprisingly though both would not live, one was still fighting. She knelt beside the man, half-curled over his brother as if to protect him from the savages of even death itself. Sakura stared at him expressionlessly for a very long time, before he exhaled loudly. "Burn... the bodies... nin-san."
He didn't even recognize her. Somehow, this was a far worse blow than even seeing her dead former teammate. Somehow, this made it all worse, and dredged up the tears much more quickly than anything else.
"Okay," she choked out between sobs. "Okay, Itachi-san. I'll burn your bodies personally. I promise I will."
The man that she didn't know rolled over onto his back slowly, black eyes taking in her face. His left hand did not release that of his brother's, but his right reached out to take hers. She stared down at him as he smiled faintly at her. "Thank you," he whispered. "Sakura-san."
xXx
I know. I am absolutely, one hundred percent horrible. Still, hope you enjoy! This WOULD have been part of my Raven series... except they deleted that without so much as a warning, and I haven't the energy to repost it atm.
Anyway, review!
