Rose rummaged through her drawers, clothes being flung onto every surface within a 10 foot radius.
"I mean can you believe her nerve?" Rose was practically screaming at the tall, suited man leaning against the corner of their room.
"She's your mother. She just wants the best for you." The man got up and moved behind Rose, massaging her shoulders.
Jackie had been mentioning marriage for a while now. At first it was discrete things here and there. How did Rose like this dress in a magazine? Wasn't this engagement ring pretty? But now it was almost a constant badger on if the Doctor had popped the question yet. Rose and her Doctor had been together in Pete's world for about 5 months now, and they were both happily content in their way of life. Rose's mother, however, believed that a ring and vows were the only way to seal the deal.
"Doesn't she see that we're perfectly content the way we are? I mean we don't even know enough people to hold a wedding." Rose wasn't completely put off by the thought of marriage. After all, she was a girl, and yes she did fantasize about getting married one day. But since she had been with the Doctor all those feelings had been pushed to the back of her mind. It was something she never thought she would need to experience.
"Do you want to get married?"
"I don't know... I mean at one point in time, yes I did, but now..."
"I was married once..." The Doctor mentioned absentmindedly.
Rose turned to face him, "What?"
"On Gallifrey. I was, oh, 200 some at the time. Still naive, like most young adults. But, she was lovely. She made me feel like there was something more to this world. But I killed her. Her, the kids, the grand kids, all perished in the Time War."
"What was her name?" Rose thought she should be jealous, but instead she felt nothing but sadness for the Doctor. She hated seeing him upset.
"Oh it doesn't matter." The Doctor waved her off. "That was so long ago. I actually forget about them a lot, as awful as that sounds. But, what's the point of remembering. I can't go back, they're all just a memory now."
Rose just sat there. Once the Doctor was in a funk it took a while for him to get out of it.
She placed her head on his chest, one heart beating instead of the two she used to be so accustomed to.
"I'm so sorry." Rose mumbled.
The Doctor buried his head in her hair. "Don't be." He said back, kissing the top of her head. "I have you now. And that's all that matters."
