She's back in the thirtieth century again, in the time she's supposed to be, but it's not her home. Not anymore.
Her parents and her brother look just the same as they did when she left, they act the same, and she's almost sure she loves them as much as she did before. But the people she came home to aren't the ones she left. She'll remember something that never happened to them or the other way around. These people scratch their heads when every now and then she'll turn around as if to tell someone something, but her voice trails off with a sad-sounding "Hey, Wes...", but at least she understands why they don't when that happens.
None of them feel at home anymore. No one has said anything to her, of course. They don't need to. Alex transferred off planet. Lucas is more standoffish than ever. Jen keeps volunteering for undercover missions, each one longer and more dangerous than the last. The last time Katie saw her was a week ago. And Trip...
Trip is curled up next to her, fast asleep.
They've been doing this for awhile now, but it still surprises her that they've actually gone this far sometimes. Yes, she loves him. She's loved him as long as she can remember, but between training and work and trying to keep the timeline intact as possible they never had the chance to even consider going further. But then Ransik was arrested, and they returned home, only now it wasn't, and the only person who really understood and was still around was each other, and well...
It still surprises her at times, but she's never regretted it. Trip is the one constant left in a universe made up of excessive chains of things that seem right but aren't, memories that shouldn't exist anymore, and friends she'll never see anymore. When it gets to be too much, he makes it bearable.
She doesn't want to wake him up, so she makes sure to kiss him very softly. Thank you.
