Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, only the plot.

A/N: A short, sweet ficlet. OOTP spoilers.

The Brightest Star of All

By: blahblah

Silence lingered in the dormitory and shadows veiled the light. The black, velvet sky stretched across the horizon, dotted with white stars. He couldn't see the moon but its reflection, blurred in the dark pools of the lake.

Harry rubbed his eyes and turned the page. He listened to Ron's loud breathing before glancing at his book. He dipped a borrowed quill into his ink pot and began to scribble across a sheet of parchment. His Astronomy essay was due in a few days but he couldn't fall asleep.

Nightmares haunted his dreams. He saw Sirius's stunned face as he fell through the veil, fluttering as though a wind whipped around it. The vivid, sharp memories lurked in his mind and he knew he would never be the same again. He was thrusted into a different world where his old problems were trivial and nothing mattered anymore.

Nothing. Without Sirius, he was lost. And without him, he would never find his way.

Harry sighed and glanced down at the book again. He didn't deserve to die. He blinked away a few tears fiercely and struggled to read the jumble of words printed across the pages.

And there it was again. Sirius.

Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, is found in the constellation of--

He lifted his eyes from the book and felt hot tears, streaming down his cheeks. A wave of sorrow and loneliness washed over him.

Sirius, where are you? I need you. Harry needed to see his comforting face again and his advice. He needed him to guide him and help him find his way again. He just wanted him back. He didn't realize how much of an impact Sirius had in his life until it was too late. Until he was gone...

He looked up at the sky, tears rolling down his face. The dim stars were clustered in the sky, a few shining brightly. But one glittered with white light, twinkling before his eyes. As though it smiled at him...

Harry glanced back the book and then at the star. His dried tears stung his face as he stared in utter amazement at the star.

Not just any star.

Sirius, the brightest star of all. And Sirius, his beloved godfather.

Harry knew Sirius had never left his side. He was watching over him, all along.

A/N: So, so, so, how did you like it? I was inspired to write this because today I went on a field trip to a star dome. We looked at different constellations like Cassiopeia and Ursula Major (where we learned about the brightest star in the sky, Sirius). So, while I was listening to the lady, I was also working up a small, short ficlet in my head. So here it is.

Review, please? I would appreciate it!
