"...and they lived happily ever after..." She slowly closed the book, totally disgusted with its ending. Why do stories always have to end like this? Why are they so unrealistic? Happily Ever After. I mean, what happened next? Did they have problems like every relationship does? Why didn't Cinderella and her charming prince get a divorce? Or Mermaid with her Eric, or even Shrek and his Fiona? She thought almost angrily.
"What happens next? Is it all over when you reach the back flap of a book, or when you see the End part of the movie? What happens? Don't they yell at each other? Don't they feel that they made the wrong decision? Don't they feel they have to go back in time?" she softly murmured in a melancholic way.
"SAKURA!!!" Sakura rolled her eyes as she recognized the voice.
"WHAT TOMOYO?" She yelled back, since she was upstairs and Tomoyo barely had stepped into the foyer. She came running up the stairs, a new book in hand.
"Sakura, I just came from the bookstore and I found this wonderful book!"
"Oh yeah?" Sakura asked uninterestedly, as if books had already lost their charm to her.
"Sakura, you must read this book. It is simply fantastique. I read the first story on my way here and it's so totally takes you to another world. It's simply kawaii!" Tomoyo said breathlessly.
"Don't they all?" Sakura whispered with a disappointed air.
"Come on Sakura, just read the first story...or just start reading, whatever." Sakura looked at Tomoyo steadily, measuring her friend. Why were they friends anyway? They were so different...but at the same time...so eerily alike.
Sakura sighed, extended her hand and tiresomely said, "Okay Tomoyo, give me the fucking book."
Tomoyo smiled sheepishly. She had won another battle.
Tomoyo gave the book over to Sakura while she said, "You must read it, it is simply marvelous."
"Yes, yes Tomoyo, stop gushing about the book, you already said that." Sakura took the book in her hand, caressing its cover and turning it around, as if to find something surprising in it while Tomoyo looked eagerly at her, waiting for Sakura to open it.
"Ahem, Tomoyo, didn't you have to do something up at the airport? About a kid?"
"Oh yes! For Kami-sama's sake! I so totally forgot? A son of my mother's best friend or something like that...what time is it?"
"Seven forty five." Sakura stated calmly.
"WHAT?? I'm so late and so dead. His airplane arrived two hours ago! I've gotta run, please be ready when I come by and pick you up, since I'll barely stop for you to jump in. We gotta take this kid to dinner."
"Um, what restaurant?" Sakura asked, not really caring.
"Fortune House!" Tomoyo called as she exited.
"Ugh, I hate Fortune House." Sakura murmured as she played with the book, deciding whether to open it or not. "What would I lose if I opened it? Yes, I'd be disappointed with its ending yet again, but...maybe I will not." Sakura turned the book and read the title.
"The Sweet Perfume of the Adieu, Jádore"
