Fang's POV
I crouched at the edge of the cliff waiting for Max. Yes, it has been 20 years. Honestly, I'm not even sure if Max is alive. Whether she's expired, or forgotten about me.
However, I'm still alive, and as long as I'm alive I would wait for Max, even though I left her. Still, that was for the best… I hope.
My mind had wandered when I heard a gush of wind. I turned around and saw… Max. Her eyes still sparkled, though noticeable bags hung from her sad but still fierce eyes. She looked like she hadn't eaten in days, but she was still just as beautiful as ever. Her wings stretched out, and for a second she smiled.
"Fang?" she whispered reaching out. Her eyes looked relieved.
I stood up to embrace her, but she suddenly turned violent and slapped me across the cheek.
"You jerk!" she yelled. I was momentarily shocked, but then again I expected that. "How could you do this to me?!" she tried to punch me, but I dodged stepping back.
"Max please…"
"No! Shut up shut up SHUT UP!!!!" tears streamed down her face as she tried to kick me. I dodged again. Her aims were off with… sadness, disappointment. "You LEFT me! You said that you loved me… then you LEAVE! Did you really think that was BETTER? You're a freaking idiot! You jerk! You jack, ugh!" she suddenly lost all strength and collapsed. I immediately leaped forward to catch her before she hit the ground. She felt lighter than ever.
"Get away from me…" she said quietly and crying.
I held her face still in my hands. I wiped away her tears and kissed her passionately, to show I still love her.
"Max please forgive me, but you know it had to be done."
"No! Don't tell me to forgive you after putting me through all this. We could have worked it out, together!"
"Ok I won't. But I still love you, and it wasn't easy to leave…"
"But you DID!" Max was sobbing endlessly now.
I pulled her close and rubbed her back between her wings.
"Fang, I do forgive you. I love you. But it hurt so much…"
"Same here. I really didn't want to, but for you to save the world…"
"Don't! Say that. You leaving was more of a distraction then anything else. I was so scared… that in 20 years you'd be dead or I'd be dead and I'd never see you again."
"I'm so sorry, sweetie." I said quietly close to crying myself. "But you succeeded. The world's safe now."
"No… the world's safe FOR now, but Mr. Chu… he's vanished. Not dead, but gone. He's hiding or something… planning something else, but I don't think I ca do this alone. I really can't. Fang I need you. Now more than ever. Please…"
I remember I had asked her to not ask me to go back, but I had said I would if she asked.
I nodded. "I'll be there for you. Wherever you go, I will follow." I quoted from what I had told her 20 years ago.
She smiled, and I leaned in to kiss her. Then, we held hands and flew home together.
