chapter 1: The girl made from Shadows

disclamier: I don't own Trigun but I do own Umi and Rini and other random characters that appear in this fanfic ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The sun was as hot as it was everyday in the city of July. No one knew why, but July seemed to be the hottest city around. Vash the Stampede walked in a slumpy way.

Vash: Are we there yet?

Vash's voice was edged with a slight thirst. His stomach made a loud growl.

Meryl: Vash!

Meryl whapped the side of Vash's head leaving a huge bump. Wolfwood let out a sigh. It was silent for a couple of mintues until Millie started jumping up and down.

Millie: We're here!

Vash: Yay!

Mille and Vash started running to the city of July. Wolfwood and Meryl raised an eyebrow at the two. When the four reached July they headed straight for a bar. Millie ordered some tea and pudding, Meryl ordered some coffee, Wolfwood ordered a bottle of fine wine and Vash ordered a bottle of beer and some donuts. The bar was filled with happy and semi-drunken laughter. Vash munched happily on his donuts,

Vash: These are so tasty.

Vash had little hearts in his eyes as he wolfed down a couple more donuts, stopping for a quick drink and to catch his breath.

Millie: Wow Mr. Vash, you sure do eat alot.

Millie let out a giggle. Meryl sighed. She was on alot of stress lately. She didn't know why or how her bubble headed partner could be so calm. Meryl sighed again and scanned the bar. Nothing odd seemed going on. Soon the waitress came to their table. She had long blonde hair, pointy ears, and amazing eyes. Her eyes were a red and electric blue mixed together. They made a beautiful purple that couldn't be described. Meryl read her name tag. The waitresses name was Umi.

Umi: Need anything over here?

Vash's eyes grew into big hearts.

Vash: Why my dear lady, your so beautiful and-

Meryl showed three donuts into Vash's mouth.

Meryl: Excuse him please. We're fine.

Umi: OK.

Umi walked away, humming a tune. Seconds later the window crashed. Vash got up and pushed Umi out of the way. People started screaming.

Vash: Everyone go!

Umi was about to run out of the bar when she was knocked down by a girl in her late teens. The girl looked about 18 years old. She had short pink hair and electric blue eyes that were as cold as death's touch. The girl was wearing a black bandanna that covered most of her short pink hair. She had a pair of goggles on her head, a tight white tee shirt that showed alot of her stomach and stopped right below her breasts. The girl also wore a black vest that wen to her silver belt, a pair of black jeans that went a couple of inches below the knee, some leather black fingerless gloves, and some black boots. The girl also had three silver hoops in her right ear. The girl gave an evil smile and pulled out a silver hand gun. Then she held it up at Umi.

Vash: Stop right there ma'am!

The girl looked at Vash.

Girl: We finally meet ... Vash the Stampede. I'd love to chat now, but I'm kinda busy at the moment.

The girl cocked her gun. Umi trembled in fear. Vash got in front of Umi.

Vash: We wish no trouble here-

Girl: Then get out of my way.

Vash: I will not let you kill her.

There was a silence. Vash and the pink haired girl stared each other down. Then hearts came into Vash's eyes.

Vash: Your so pretty! Why would a pretty lady like yourself wanna kill anything?

The girl raised an eyebrow.

Vash: So tell me whats your name and why have you come to July of all places. Was it fate for us to meet?

The girl growled.

Girl: My name ... my name is Rini. Rini of the Shadows.

Wolfwood's eyes seemed to grow under his sunglasses. He remembered when he was in the Gung Ho Guns ... (FYI readers he quit in this fanfic) he remembered Zazie and Midvalley talking about some "ultimate Gung Ho Gun" by the name of Rini of the Shadows. Wolfwood remember the tone of Midvalley's voice. It was almost frightened.

Wolfwood: ~thought~ Could she be, the ultimate Gung Ho Gun? If so then Vash is in BIG trouble!

Vash: Thats a pretty name. But tell me Miss Rini why do you wish to kill Miss Umi?

Rini grinned. Her grin was like a tiger who had just caught its pray.

Rini: Orders from my master, of course.

Rini's eyes traveled the room, and stopped on Wolfwood. Rini's grinned widened by a molar or two.

Rini: Ahhh Wolfwood. Its nice to finally meet you.

Wolfwood: I should say the same thing. Though I am disappointed. By the way the other Gung Ho Guns spoke of you, I was expecting a woman three times my height with a built in shot gun.

Rini laughed.

Rini: And what do you see now?

Wolfwood could tell Rini was mocking him. So he grinned widely.

Wolfwood: To be honest I see a scrawny teenager with a hand gun who got mixed up with the wrong people. Tell me, how'd you become a Gung Ho Gun.

Rini's eyes flared. She didn't seem to pleased with the traveling priest's words.

Rini: I guess it would only be fair to tell a fellow Gung Ho Gun.

Rini cocked her gun again. Meryl had her hand on hers. Millie just stood there. Vash had his eyes narrowed in disbelief. Hi didn't want to believe that Rini worked for his brother, Knives.

Wolfwood: I'm all ears.

Rini: I was raised in a small desert town about a three week drive away from the town of November. I was the youngest of twenty-nine children. I had fourteen sisters and fourteen brothers. My parents never could keep track of us. They were so caring, so nice. I hated them. But one day when I was seven years old, I found daddy's gun. And a letter. The letter was to daddy's friend Robert. They were planning to kill us. Momma even knew about the plan and she didn't do anything! So when Robert, Daddy, and Momma were asleep it only took me a couple of seconds to kill them all.

Vash's eyes went wide. Rini had killed so she could save herself and her brothers and sisters. Umi's voice was trembled.

Wolfwood: Then what happen?

Rini: Simple. I ran away that night. My brothers and sisters were separated into different homes all over this damned planet. But I kept running. Then one day with the same gun I used to kill Momma, Daddy, and Robert, I used to shot a merchant who knew me. I killed that man without so much as breaking a sweat. Thats when Legato found me. He saw that I wasn't scared. He took me to Master Knives. And I know all about how Vash didn't want to join him.

Vash: Then why does Knives want Umi dead?

Rini's eye twitched abit. She raised her silver hand gun one again.

Rini: It's simple. Because, it would be another life, you couldn't save ... Vash the Stampede.

Rini pressed the trigger and the only sound was the gunshot. Vash's eyes were wide. Meryl was in shock. Millie had turned her head and Wolfwood placed his hand on Millie's shoulder.

Vash: No ...

Meryl: ...

Millie: (crying)

Wolfwood: Why do you call yourself Rini "of the Shadows"?

Wolfwood's voice trembled abit. Try as might, not to show fear.

Rini: Because I shadow my problems, the people I kill. I kill with some honor atleast, so I am not completely barbaric. As some may put it.

Rini took her bandanna and threw it on Umi's face.

Rini: I only do this to follow orders. My orders were clear. Kill Umi Marginkia and leave. Pity. After I was told of the fates of the unworthy Gung Ho Guns I was hoping to fight you Vash. Maybe one day we can have a match just for the fun of it. Maybe.

The dry wind blew inside the bar and blew a couple of strands of Rini's pink hair. Rini got up and grinned,

Rini: Till next time Vash. And Wolfwood.

Wolfwood raised his head.

Rini: I'm trusting that you will protect Vash and these two young ladies from any trouble.

Rini gave a grin and walked out the bar. Rini walked for awhile. Then she began talking to herself. Either that or she was speaking to the air.

Rini: Tch. I'm getting to soft. Its a shame. Vash is just as cute a Master Knives. But neither of them I can love. Nor can I love Legato. I guess that's the downside of being a Gung Ho Gun.

Images started playing in Rini's mind. The first one of Knives, the second of Vash, the third of Legato, the fourth of Wolfwood, and the fifth of a man with flaming red hair and gold eyes. Rini took out a picture of the red haired, gold eyed man and held it to her chest.

Rini: Oh Jumi. I miss you. Older brother.

A tear hit the ground, but was soaked up by the crusty salty ground.

Rini: You were the only person that knew who I really was. You were that merchant I shot. I killed you, big brother. I'm sorry.

Tears flew down Rini's face. Rini continued walking until a black carriage appeared. Making sure there were no signs of her crying on her face she stepped into the carriage. Inside sat Legato and Midvalley. Midvalley had a permenate bruise on his neck and it was visible to all eyes. Midvalley cursed Vash for it every morning and every night. Legato looked at Rini's white shirt. On it where tiny water spots.

Legato: I don't believe it's been raining.

Rini: Someone threw water at me. It hasn't dried.

Midvalley: Where's your bandanna Rini?

Rini: I lost it.

Legato narrowed his eyes.

Rini: Stay out of my mind or I'll rip your balls out Legato.

Midvalley couldn't help but laugh. He coughed to hide it.
