~ 3 Doors Down ~

~*~

Twelve rings echoed distinctly through the quiet city. In the darkest moment of the night, a single man quickly walked into a building. A child was clutched close to his chest. His pace was rather brisk, as what he was doing was highly secretive to the public. The government had persuaded him to test their product on his baby…his little girl. It was said that the new product would make the normal human stronger. She was the perfect test subject, being the daughter of the world champion and all. How would the daughter of the great Mr. Satan fend with a new strength inside her?

Mr. Satan pushed open swinging double doors and walked into the laboratory. His breath shook as he laid his daughter on one of the counters. He could not believe that he agreed to this. How did the government convince him to let the scientists use her as a test subject?

Suddenly they were treating human lives as objects…

She rose slowly, sleepily rubbing her eyes, "Daddy?" She said with a small yawn, "What's happening?"

"Videl honey, these men are going to give you some stuff that will make you healthier, okay?" Mr. Satan looked at Videl. She was so young and innocent. Why were they bestowing this upon her? They did not even know about any side effects…yet.

"Will it hurt?" Videl asked. Mr. Satan did not answer her. "Daddy, will it hurt?" She repeated.

"I don't know. I'm sure it will be okay."

Videl nodded, and rubbed her eyes again. She did not know what was happening, nor would she understand until she became older.

"Mr. Satan, we're ready to administer the drug."

"Okay," Mr. Satan said, giving the scientist permission to use the new drug on Videl.

The scientist turned to Videl; "We're going to give you some medicine now. Can I have your arm?" He said in a childlike voice. Videl held her arm out as she nodded. The scientist cleaned her forearm. Taking an elastic, he wrapped it around Videl's elbow to make an important vein show. Picking up a needle, he filled it with a green liquid. Slowly, he punctured Videl's skin with it, letting the liquid mingle with the main blood stream.

"Daddy it hurts," Videl said quietly, "it hurts badly." She cringed in pain. The needle hurt her skin, but the liquid burned her insides. It felt like a massive fire throughout her body. The sensation was one a four-year-old girl should not be feeling. "Daddy it hurts!" She suddenly screamed out, kicking at the counter. "Make it stop, make it stop! DADDY!" Videl screeched, forcing the needle to fall out of her skin and crash onto the floor. "It's burning me!" Tears flowed down the child's face as she scratched at her forearm. Her legs kicked at the counter, making the drawers rattle intensely. As she cried, the clock struck twelve-thirty. Combined with the rings, Videl's cries sounded like dying soul, one that went through much pain and suffering in its lifetime.

Mr. Satan rushed to his daughter's side. He wrapped his massive arms around her miniature body. Rocking gently, he stroked her hair, "It's okay Videl. Daddy's here. It's okay." He repeated softly. Videl's cries turned into soft whimpers. Soon, all Mr. Satan could hear was Videl's shaking breath, until there was nothing. Mr. Satan looked at Videl, a worried look on his face. "She's barely breathing now." He said in a panicked voice, "Why is she not breathing?"

"Probably a side effect." One of the scientists answered. He stroked his mustache thoughtfully, "Her body is adapting to the drug, that is all. She will be fine."

"Are you sure a young child can handle this?"

"Scientists are never sure of anything new. That is why we test them. Your daughter should live. Just remember, you did sign a contract preventing you from suing us in the event that she does die."

"Doesn't prevent me from killing you," Mr. Satan snarled while picking up Videl. Saying nothing else, Mr. Satan left, carrying Videl in his arms.

"Do you think she will live?"

"Most likely. She will be an asset to us when she gets older. Keep your eye on her, got it? She already holds unnatural strength. If it gets abused, it would be disastrous. "

   "Yes sir."

That fateful day would plague Videl's dream for a long time. She never knew why she had this bizarre and awful strength enhancer injected into her. It did strange things to her head. It made fighting seem normal, and Videl always had to make sure that she did not enjoy it too much. The drug made it easy to lose control, and it was important to stay in control so nothing treacherous would happen.

   Fourteen Years Later

A bright sun shone over the city. Its rays bounced off all that was shiny, and peaked in through cracked shades and curtains.  The sunlight streamed into people's rooms, lighting them up as a chandelier would light a grand hall. So it was then Videl's unofficial workday began. Since she had been old enough to travel the city alone, she had taken the sole responsibility to flushing out all crime. Early on, she came to the conclusion that the police were useless, filled with lazy men who could not even shoot a gun accurately. Every day before school, Videl would head out in her helicopter and search out her targets. They were mostly petty thieves who were too dumb to think out their plans before carrying them out. Videl would find them, and there would be a short fight before Videl won. She would then hand her victims over to the police, who dealt with the punishments. Then it was off to school, where she had to sit in a confining building for six or seven hours.

This morning was different though. It seemed the same, but it was most definitely different…maybe even life changing. Videl did the same routine she did every morning. She brushed her teeth, took a shower, ate, and headed out to "work." She flew her helicopter through the city, searching for anything unusual. Suddenly, an array of bullets engulfed the helicopter. Videl tried to skillfully glide the helicopter out of danger, but no such luck came. She noticed smoke streaming behind her as the helicopter made a quick descent. A bullet must have hit! Pulling on the joysticks in front of her, Videl tried to land smoothly as possibly. As she hit the ground, a hiss came from the engine. Videl jumped out as fire spurted from the helicopter. Rolling away, she watched as her only form of transportation went up in hot flames. She wiped a few beads of sweat off her forehead, and turned around. Greeting her were three muscular men.

"Hello Videl," One of the men said

Videl rested her hands on her hips and smirked at them, "Hi boys. How are we doing this fine morning?" She glanced behind her at the still burning helicopter before speaking to them, "Smart of you to ruin my helicopter. Looks like you guys are smarter than my average thieves." She shifted her weight onto one leg so that her body slightly curved. Looking the men over, she noted their sizes, muscles, and facial features. They all sported bald heads. One of them had a goatee while the others had no facial hair. They all seemed pretty cocky, from the look of their facial expressions. This excited Videl. The cocky ones were always the most fun to beat.

"Videl, we challenge you to a match. Us three against you," The man with the goatee said. He stroked his facial hair as he spoke, "No weapons allowed. Last one standing wins." The man smiled at Videl.

"You shot me down so you could fight me? That was a stupid reason to do that." Videl cracked her knuckles as she spoke, "Just for that, I'll accept your challenge. Is there going to be any wager on this?"

The man pointed behind him, "You see this bank? We have hostages in there. You lose, and the bank goes 'kaboom'. You get it?" The smiles on the other two men widened. The odds were favoring them, and there was no way a teenage girl could take them on at the same time.

Videl smirked, growing even more excited, "Makes this even more fun, don't you think?" She sank down into a fighting stance. Her smirk grew into a grin, "Let's get started, shall we?"

   "Guys, take her down."

And so Videl's battle began. She smirked at the men came after her. Both were fairly quick, but it would not be enough to take Videl to the ground. She skillfully blocked every attack coming from them. She smiled as she ducked from opposites attacks. Both men hit each other. Quickly, Videl grabbed their heads and bashed them together, knocking them out. She kicked each one in the stomach, just to give them a little extra pain.

Videl turned towards the man with the goatee, who she had dubbed as the leader, "You shoot me down, and you send incompetent fighters to try to beat me? You must be a fool." She stepped forward towards the man, "Do you care to give me a name, since you already know mine?"

"Oh, how rude of me. My name is Saito."

"Saito…sounds like a villain from a children's show," Videl said with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

"My men were a test. You are far more skilled than I thought." Saito said, sinking into a fighting stance. Without warning, he leaped at Videl. Videl jumped backwards, avoiding his punch. Saito launched rounds of punches and kicks towards Videl, forcing her to move backwards towards the bank. With a final punch, Saito sent Videl through the doors and into the main hall of the bank.

Videl slammed her head on the ground. Sitting up quickly, she cringed as a stinging sensation ran through her body. She rubbed her head, trying to rid herself of the unneeded pain. Before she could ever react to it, a leg slammed into her stomach, launching her even further back. Videl coughed and stood up. She desperately tried to ignore the pain racing through her body. A frown firmly set on her lips, she wiped a trickle of blood that formed at the corner of her mouth.

Saito laughed as he walked towards Videl. The girl was not as strong as he thought. His steps were solid and loud, echoing louder each time he stepped closer to Videl. He laughed even more when Videl responded to him by stepping backwards. He quickened his pace, and so did Videl.

Soon, Videl's back hit the cold wall. She looked at Saito. Fear started to rise within her as she realized that she had met her superior in fighting. What was going to happen? What was he going to do to her?

Her questions were answered with a swift punch in the stomach.

And then there was another hit.

   And another.

Round after round of punches came into contact with Videl's body. She did nothing to stop them, because she had no strength left. She wondered why she was so weak. She could always take on her opponents, no matter what. Now here Videl was, defenseless.

She fell to the ground once Saito stopped his attack. She cringed in pain and she passed through a coughing fit. Coughing hurt so much. She knew that her ribs were at least badly bruised. As she stopped coughing, she looked at her hand. Little droplets of blood decorated it.

"Funny, there are no hostages like you said," Videl covered her mouth as she coughed a little more. Blood dripped through the cracks of her fingers.

"No, but there are people." Saito snapped his fingers. Videl heard a hundred clicks echo through the bank. Surrounding her and Saito were one hundred men, with guns pointing at her.

"So this was your plan, huh? To get me in here and to kill me after you broke me?" Videl asked painfully.

Saito laughed, "Of course. It's all a game to me, you know. To take down the world champion's daughter is like a hunter catching his prime leopard."

"But why not kill my father instead? He's stronger than me."

"Oh Videl, how naïve you are. We would never leave anyone alive to take revenge on your death. That is why we killed him this morning, after you left."

Videl's eyes went wide. At this point she realized that she needed to get out of there. Even with the shock of her father's unfortunate fate, she had to save herself. Taking in a painful breath, Videl threw herself at Saito. As soon as Saito hit the ground, Videl ran for the exit…

Gohan walked down the city streets. He had nothing in particular to do, but he figured that something exciting might happen. At least, he had a feeling that something exciting would happen. He passed a bank with a particularly empty parking lot. Peculiar, he thought. Banks always have a ton of people in them. Suddenly, he felt an energy dramatically drop. It wasn't one of the Saiya-Jins, because he could feel their energy. It was a human energy, and the only human energy he could feel was…

Gohan gasped, and headed towards the entrance to the bank.
