Disclaimer: I don't own the characters or setting or anything but the plot. And the song is Dear Friend by Stacie Orrico.

A/N: This is NOT a Harry/Hermione fic. It is about their friendship only. I'm sorry but I am a very strong R/Hr sipper. Also this takes place after the sixth book so much spoilers.

Dear friend, what's on your mind?

You don't laugh the way you used to,

But I've noticed how you cry.

Dear friend, I feel so helpless,

I see you sit in silence,

As you face new pain each day,

I feel there's nothing I can do.

Hermione Granger walked outside of the Burrow and descended the laneway. She looked up and down the street and saw a lone figure making its was down the street. Walking quickly, Hermione tried to catch up to Harry Potter.

He was so solemn these days, avoiding Ginny, talking little and always deep in thought. Nothing could make him laugh or even smile, though Fred and George tried their best. Molly Weasley was terribly worried about him. Hermione sighed. "Aren't we all," she whispered.

She had caught a glimpse of him in his room twice, tears streaming down his cheeks. He would have never wanted her to see that, so Hermione had left him alone, sitting with the silence hanging around him. Hermione wished there was someway to help him either to forget or make the pain bearable.

Dear friend, I'm here for you,

I know that you don't talk too much,

But we can share this day anew.

Dear friend, please don't feel like you're alone,

There is someone who is praying,

Praying for your piece of mind,

Hoping joy is what you'll find.

She saw Harry up ahead, leaning against a tree. Hermione ran up to him and put a hand on his shoulder to let him know she was there. She smiled as he looked at her but it quickly disappeared as she saw the worry behind his eyes. Was Dumbledore's death haunting him? Or was his task he had set himself overpowering? She wanted to ask but she decided against it. He wouldn't talk about it.

"I'm here, Harry," said Hermione.

"I know," he said simply. Hermione's heart ached for her friend. She wanted this to over, the horcruxes destroyed and Voldemort defeated. She wanted Ginny and Harry to be together again so Harry could be carefree and happy like he was for the couple of months last year. Hermione was so deep in thought; she was caught unexpectedly when Harry hugged her.

"Thank you," Harry whispered, letting her go.

A/N: Short, eh? And what a metaphorical ending! It could mean so many things. Anyways, hope you liked it and no…it's not H/Hr! My friend at school thought it was and I said, "NO!" Teehee.
