Kaigo's POV
Pain.
That's all I felt in my current condition, that and the devastating screeches of those monsters, I think they called it Grimm. Every day its been like this, wake up, experience pain, next day, repeat. They think that they had me in darkness. Had me completely clueless as to what was going on, but just like Grimm, I learnt.
I learnt that I was not at the surface, the surface being were the citizens roam about, I was in a room, locked to the wall, with nothing but pain. I also found out that five people visited me, one was called Tyrion with a malicious personality, one was called Dr Watts with a formal approach, one was called Hazel with a simple mind, one was called Sailem with power beyond belief. And the last was called Cinder, she amongst the others would give me pain beyond imagination, I hadn't done anything to her, but my natural assumption was because of my… eye.
"Greetings young child," Sailem appeared before me whilst speaking to me.
My eyesight was cut off, but like Grimm, I used my other senses to gather all that data on the five people, Sailem showed interest in me and did nothing but chat every time she approached me, Dr Watts always checked on my condition from time to time, Hazel never did anything in particular, Tyrion poisoned me from time to time, but I eventually developed a rather disturbing way to tend to the wound and Cinder beat me to a pulp, every time.
"What do you want?" I asked rather coldly.
"Oh, why the hostility, I just wanted to chat," the power hungry so called queen replied.
"Like you always do…" I trailed off and my head slumped down, only for it to be brought back up by her hand.
"The last time you were fed was 1 week ago," I grunted as a response, "and the last time you drank was 3 days ago, so you're in very dire condition at the moment,"
"What are you getting at!?" I snapped.
"I'll allow you to escape," she placed something in the palm of my hand, "this device will transport you to a random part of the world, may it be at the bottom of the ocean amoung the clouds, it will only activate once you leave," she finished and waited for a responce to see whether or not I was intrigued in her statement.
"Go on…" I curiously asked.
"But, you must not use your semblance at any point of your departure, if at any point you do," Sailem pulled my ear to her mouth, "i'll kill you right there and then,"
"Deal, but may I ask for the most untroubling favour ever?" I questioned.
"Yes you may," she answered, curious as to what my request could be.
"Can you give me something to cover up my left eye?" I asked sheepishly.
She chuckled before a cloth was wrapped around my left eye, she walked away and noted,
"The moment I leave this room, your challenge will start, your shackled will break and sight be restored and you will choose the best course of action to escape,"
Her voice was half cut off, probably by her teleporting away, with that, I felt a satisfying sensation on my wrists and my sight was restored.
They were instantly brought to a dim crimson, somehow lighting the room I was contained in, on instinct I searched for an exit, but came to spotting none in sight, I shrugged and settled on using brought force.
My knees buckled, with my sight still a blur, a peered down to see nothing but skin and bone, I scanned my body and found the same result, also the attire that was covering up my body was nothing but a pair of shorts that I believe Hazel was so kind to give to me, my shirt was torn to shreds by Cinder. On those shorts, was a knife that represented my family, a word that I had partially forgotten its meaning throughout my years of being here.
I stretched and popped every joint in my body, before launching my knife up, directly into the ceiling, it stuck there, and slowly slid out and back into my hands, I crouched and barreled myself towards the crack, fist first and completely wrecking it, causing me to pierce another hole in wood and station myself on top of a table.
"My my, that took no time at all," A familiar voice sounded behind me, I didn't turn because I deduced it was Sailem.
I scanned around the table eyeing up the four that sat before me.
"Hazel," I mumbled after seeing the silent one with a blank expression,
"Dr Watts," I breathed after spotting an overgrown stache.
"Tyrion," I faintly spoke after glimpsing over an odd sitting position.
"And Cinder," I spoke out loud and eyed up the one that hated me. I didn't take any note of the other two, even when I was gathering data because I knew that they wouldn't be no threat if I went all out.
"Well, it's been fun and all, but I will be taking my leave," I bowed before stepping off of the table and casually walked passed Sailem towards the exit.
A malicious cackle sounded behind me I turned and saw Tyrion pouncing at me with his stinger exposed, in an instant his tail met my knife and a clash boomed across the halls, I heard a fist slam from the table, followed by a painful cough, probably Cinder enraged by my escape but too weak to even protest. My gaze met with Tyrion's and they were filled with nothing but blood lust,
"Y'know, ever since you figured out a way to cure my poison, I've been urging to kill you," the scorpion taunted.
"Feelings mutual," I replied.
We both jumped back and engaged in combat, he brought out two blades that were engraved onto his fists as he lunged forward and aimed for my face. With perfect timing I caught his arm below his wrists, stopping his attack, however two barrels appeared and on impulse I moved my head, slipped my foot behind his foot and slammed Tyrion to the ground before he could even fire, with his hand still in my grasp, I pinned him down with my legs and said,
"Even without my semblance, I still managed to beat you,"
"I was going easy, personally I want to kill you when you figure how to use your semblance, when you're at your prime," despite Tyrion's position, he let out a nasty cackle.
"Oh, is that so…" I trailed off as I stood up and bolted towards the door, I heard another slam on the table and smirked as I thought,
Well that was easy.
I took one step outside and the horrific scenes of Grimm emerging from blood was replaced with clouds and a blinding sun.
"May it be at the bottom of the ocean, or among the clouds,"
"Well, Sailem said I couldn't use it to escape but since I already escaped, I can to whatever the fuck I want!" I announced out loud, currently filled with joy due to my escape.
My left eye, still covered by the black cloth, let out a silver flame and brought forth silver cat ears, a tail and claws. I bore my newly created fangs as I directed myself to a tree with a thick stump, I closed in on it in seconds as my claws dug into the thick wood, completely stopping my descent and sending a forceful stream of wind, causing the leaves to russel vigourously.
I jumped from the tree and to the ground and instantly caused my semblance to fade away, if I let it remain for any longer it would of possessed my body, my mind, At that point, I fell limp and passed out, I guess using my semblance drained the little amount of aura I had left.
Ruby's POV
We had just finished dealing with the previous village's problem and are continuing our journey to Haven, it was then, a mighty gust of wind had hit us.
"Do you think it's another Grimm?" Ren asked.
"Probably, let's go check it out," Juan replied.
We strayed off the path and headed into the forest to where the wind had originated from, a little stumbling over plants brought us to a corpse.
"Issss that the Ursa?" Nora childishly questioned.
"It's a child, Nora," Ren blankly corrected the hyperactive women.
"We should set up camp here," I suggested, "like I mean, we can't just leave him here."
"Ruby's right, beside, it's beginning to get dark," Jaun noted, with that order, we began unpacking our belongings.
"Does anyone has an extra shirt?" Ren abruptly asked.
"Why'd you ask?" Nora replied.
"Because that boy doesn't have one," Ren pointed to the kid that seemed to be my age. I peered behind me and saw that he was correct, it was then I stood up and said,
"I'll go run back to the village and get one for him," I bursted into roses just before anyone could stop me.
Kaigo's POV
Don't trust anyone brother… just kill them all.
A traumatising glimpse of my brother, stained in blood appeared in my head. I swung forward, gasping quite loudly.
"Looks like you're up, bad dream?" A voice sounded beside me, my head snapped towards the sound and saw a young gentlemen with blond hair.
"Yeah…" I replied faintly, taking in my current surroundings, I saw a campfire and four sleeping matts.
"Oh, I see you're awake," A formal voice, again sounded beside me, I turned and saw a tall male with glossy black hair, and a female with ginger hair and freckles.
"I'm Jaun, this is Ren and that's Nora," Jaun signified after their arrival, before I could even thank them for looking after my unconscious body, another voice sounded, this time out of nowhere which half spiked my intent to fight.
"AND I'M RUUUBY!" Out of nowhere, a girl appeared, dressed in a black and red attire, with roses fluttering around her, the most distinctive feature that caught my eye, was her glinting silver eyes, that gazed into my one exposed eye.
My breathing became erratic as my blood lust increased, the same image of my brother replaced Ruby for split seconds, I was snapped back into reality by her voice,
"Uhhh, are you okay?" With that my heart rate lessened as my common sense was returned, on the spot I blutred out.
"Uh, yeah, its just that it's not everyday you see someone with silver eyes," Ruby let out a slight chuckle before I announce, "well, Jaun, Ren, Nora and Ruby, I'm Kaigo, thanks for your hospitality, I will now proceed to go my own path,"
I stood up, only to feel my legs become crushed by their incompatibility to support me, I buckled and fell to one knee, it was then Jaun said,
"You don't even have the strength to stand, stay with us, until you're at 100 per cent,"
"Are you sure, like I mean, I don't want to be a nuisance," I replied almost instantaneously.
"Don't worry, Ruby has already taken that role," Nora joked followed by an innocent 'Hey!' from Ruby seconds after, "hey Kaigo, I've been meaning to ask, what happened to you, your arms and legs seem as if the wind can snap them right off!"
Well, I can't get away with everything.
"I've been in these woods for ages, I haven't eaten or drank in days," I replied.
"What about your family, aren't they looking for you?" Ren curiously asked.
"They're…. Gone…." I mumbled while my head slumped down.
"Oh… I'm sorry to hear…." Ren apologized while sounding quite sympathetic.
"Hey Kaigooo, look up," Ruby approached me and sounded quite joyful despite the statement I had said.
I looked up, and was instantly blinded by a type of warm fabric, it surprised me, so I fell backwards, it slumped off my face and I saw a shirt.
"Tadaaa, a shirt!" the silver eyed girl said.
"You really didn't need to," I replied.
"Yeah, but, it gets really cold during night times, so I thought you could use one," Ruby turned towards the campfire and said, "anyways, I'm starving, let's dig in!"
Everyone turned from their previous gloomy mood, into a positive one as they argued,
"I get the first bite!" Nora exclaimed.
"Nora, we should share, we only have three fish," Jaun replied.
"Orrrr we could just catch some more," Ruby suggested.
"Ruby, the lake is pitch black, and besides, shouldn't Kaigo get the first bite?" Ren's voice caused the other three to turn to me, I chuckled and said.
"I'll help myself then," I got up, and found the strength to sit by the campfire, before long everyone had an even bit of fish in their hands, before I took a bite, I peered over at Ruby, who was chewing vigorously into her piece of fish.
Even when everyone's down, she can turn the atmosphere around in seconds, man, I sure wish I could that.
I bit into the fish, and a faint tear trickled down my left eye, the one still covered by the cloth, it had been five years since I tasted something this good, or felt this way, I was truly grateful for this.
"Hey Kaigo, I'm sure everyone's been wanting to know, but what happened to you eye?" Jaun asked while putting down a skeleton of his fish.
Just like last time, I racked up my brain to come up with another lie,
"It's infectious, doesn't need any medical attention though, so don't worry about it."
"Oh, okay, well I'm going to hit the hay for today," Jaun went over to a sleeping mat and laid down. Eventually we all began our slumber.
A few days later.
We had already departed from the previous inn, during that time, Ruby suggested that I travel to Mystral with them, I agreed since I had nowhere or no one to turn to.
"That's strange, I wasn't expecting to hit another village so soon," Jaun said.
We all turned towards each other, thinking the exact same thing, we ran towards the village and came through the entrance, only to what seemed like an abandoned village.
"Check for survivors!" Jaun ordered, to which I replied.
"Don't bother, this place has been abandoned,"
"How can you tell?" Ruby questioned.
"Just take a look, the walls have been cracked, and moss has grown practically everywhere and yet no blood," I swiftly said.
"Kaigo's right, the citizens wanted to build a village of their own, with their own laws and rules, in hopes that one day it may become a kingdom," Ren followed on.
"Well what happened?" Nora questioned.
"What always happens…" he swiped dust of off a wall, revealing claw marks, "let's just get out of here," Ren began to walk towards the exit, and we followed ,however, minutes after he put his hand out, signaling that an enemy was nearby. From out of nowhere, Tyrion appeared, and clashed with Ren. He kicked him away, only for Ruby and Nora to engage in combat with a startling scythe and hammer.
Their attacks were in perfect sync, it seemed as if they new each other's attack pattern, however it was all in vain as Tyrion kept dodging them with ease. Ruby swung her scythe at him, Tyrion landed perfectly on it and let out a cackle, Nora raised her hammer and brought it down with great power, the scorpion jumped in the air and completely avoided it, however Nora lant of Ruby's scythe, the silver eyes girl turned the barrel downwards and fired while Nora jumped towards him, only to be sent back to the ground by a devastating kick.
He landt on the framing of a house, Jaun said,
"Listen, we don't want to fight!"
Tyrion cackled and jumped down while he began talking,
"You see, I'm not here for you," he pointed at Ren, "not here for you," he pointed at Nora, "I'm not here for you… but I'm interested in you," he pointed at Jaun, "I wish could be here for you," he pointed at me, "I'm here for her," he pointed at Ruby, who was behind all four of us.
"Me?" Ruby questioned rather confused.
It was then when my mind automatically finished a jigsaw that I hadn't even started, before I could go over what I discovered Nora and Ren were already conversing in combat. Again just like with Ruby and Nora, their attacks were in unison, so I didn't want to interrupt. Once they were flung backwards, I rushed Tyrion.
He shot multiple bullets during my approach, I dodged out of the way of the bullets and aimed my knife for his right temple, he tilted his head backwards, allowing me to slash at the air in front of him, he hooked his left fist around my arm and straight for my head, I caught his attack with my free hand, only to see another hook at the corner of my right eye. I somehow brought my knife back quick enough to intercept, from their I forcefully sent his arms both directions and proceeded to attack his exposed body, however a smirk stopped me and on impulse, I back handspring out of a x-slash made by his two blades.
I clicked my tongue, if I had both of my eyes, I could have countered that attack with ease. I regained my balance and became startled at the image of Tyrion so close in my line of view, he seemed to stay still for a second, but I was knocked to the ground by another hook, I slammed into the ground and caught a glimpse of his foot, with that image alone, I flung my knife straight up, causing him to hesitate, enough time for me spring right back up on my feet.
His cheek had a thin line of blood imprinted in it, probably from my knife, I chose to launch my fist at that exact spot, as expected he used his hand to stop it instead weaving out of its way. Almost instantly, I spun and whipped a hook kick around, he caught this as well and pushed them away, I landed on my hands and pushed upwards and slightly forward, giving me the momentum to deliver a mighty axe kick to skull, which was again deflected and smoothly slid off.
Tyrion let out a nasty grunt as he propelled his two gauntlets towards me before I hit the ground. Just as I lant, I caught the two gauntlet by the blades, causing my hand to ooze blood, however, just like last time, I separated his ams in two different directions, and instead of lunging forward, I took a step back, jumped and kicked my knife that just fell in front of me, a loud clang had sounded throughout the village.
"My, that was close," Tyrion revealed his face, hiding behind his tail which had just caught my knife.
"How 'bout this?!" Nora exclaimed and appeared behind him, with pink sparks orbiting her body. She pulled her hammer back and swung it down at his head, this created a large dust cloud which soon cleared up, only to reveal the scorpion blocking the attack with ease. He doubled kicked Nora away, and threw my knife at me, down my blindside. I managed to catch it, but I received a devastating kick, surprisingly sending me flying into the woods!
How much power did he put into that kick!?
I had somehow landed about 50 metres away from the abandoned village, I quickly made my way back, it took a few minutes, since my right side felt completely thrashed by his attack, I peered through the entrance and saw an old man had just shielded Ruby from a falling beam, and Tyrion was behind him!
Without thinking, I brought out my semblance, which ignited the silver flame in my left eye whilst my cat features were exposed, I practically warped over to then. I then miraculously intercepted the impending stinger, however I had to use my body as a means of shielding, Tyrion let out a nasty cackle as Ruby gasped and bore her scythe over his stinger, and fired a shot, severing it, whilst he yelled.
"ARRGH, YOU BITCH!" he lunged forward, but so did the old man that I had saved, he retreated while mumbling something over and over again. I fell to one knee.
"Kaigo!" Ruby crouched and put her hand on my shoulder.
"I'm fine, it's just a graze," I breathed.
"Hey kid," the man's voice sounded as if he had chewed on gravel, "what's your name?" I looked up and replied,
"Kaigo… and you?"
"Qrow…"
"Qrow, why are people after Ruby?" Jaun said while the three approached us.
"What's your favourite fairy tale?" the man replied, only to receive multiple confused looks.
"Uhhh, you didn't answer the question," Nora stated.
"Set up camp, I'll explain then," with that order from Qrow they all left and went to the exit, Ruby helped me up and said,
"Kaigo… thanks for savin my Uncle," she peered into my black eye and looked forward again.
"Don't mention it," I huffed.
Night time, around the campfire.
Qrow had just finished his explanation of the maidens and the two gods which Auspin had believed in and frankly, it didn't phase me at all since I partially knew the story from eavesdropping on Sailem.
A sharp pain had hit me, the poison was slowly chipping away at my conscious, so I decided to tend to it…
My own way.
During my time with Tyrion, I've adapted to be able to tell where the poison is currently located in my body via blood cells, I waited until the poison was about to rush past my cut, I brought out my knife and thrusted it towards my wound, it was stopped dead in its place by a hand, I looked up and saw Ruby with an intense and worried gaze,
"What are you doing?" Ruby questioned.
"Tending to the poison," I replied blankly.
"By stabbing yourself? You've dealt with enough damage as it is, just wait until we find some medicine, please?" We were so close that you could feel each others breathe, I gazed into her silver eyes and they were filled with concern, I dropped my knife and said,
"Fine… I'll wait,"
"Thanks!" Ruby now sounded much more happier than a few seconds ago.
"Hey kid, Kaigo was it? What's under that cloth?" Qrow shot a question at me whilst Ruby returned to where she originally sat.
"An infectious eye," I confidently replied.
"No… what's really under that cloth?" Qrow got up and approached me.
"What's it to you?" I said defensively, thankfully everyone besides from Ruby was still distracted by what Qrow said.
I felt the cloth rip off my right eye, revealing a nasty scar diagonally cut across it, I instantly covered it, but Ruby saw the scar.
"Kaigo, what was that scar?" I ignored the question and gave Qrow a glare.
"Give. It. Back." I stated.
He chuckled and proceeded to move my hand, I shot a look at Ruby's similarly worried expression and took of into the forest at blinding speeds. I didn't want them to find out, I didn't want them to know.
I hopped up to a branch and was about to take off, but a series of voices sounded in my head.
Kaigo, take care of your brother now.
Listen Utsu, you shouldn't run away from your problems.
Kaigo… thanks for savin my Uncle.
With that I sat on the branch I was stationed on, and stared into the moon. Attempting to figure out
Ruby's POV
The wind let out a low whoosh, as Kaigo disappeared and ran into the woods, I was truly speechless at this.
"Hey Kaigo, where are you going?" Jaun shouted, but that didn't stop him in his tracks.
"I knew it, that kid has some secrets that he doesn't want to tell," Qrow said while sitting back down.
"What do we do then?" I questioned, clearly worried about Kaigo's act.
"With his poison, there's now way he could of gone far, go find him and bring him back," my uncle stated while looking at me.
I left Crescent Rose behind and picked up his knife and ventured the same way Kaigo did, a few moments later I saw his silhouette on a tree branch, I called for him and he turned and looked at me with his right eye camouflaging in the night, and his right glinting in the moonlight, I focused on it and saw it was silver.
And that concludes the first chapter of one silver and one black, tell me what you think and please don't expect regular updates like with a lust of revenge. I say this because I'm setting this story right at the end of volume 4, and volume 5 has only JUST came out.
