Asteria had never really liked him. No, that wasn't true - he just wasn't of interest to her. Of course, he was reasonably handsome and heir to a rather large fortune, but so were a lot of the other boys in Slytherin.
Besides, he was always swapping inane insults with Potter and his sidekicks and linking up vanishing cabinets, constantly flanked by his oaf "friends", with a simpering Parkinson dripping off of his arm.
His expression was always blank; the greatest response anyone other than a particularly annoying Gryffindor could elicit was a quirked eyebrow. He said very little, and when he did speak his voice was low and his attitude guarded.
Daphne said he was stolid, and once Asteria had looked that up (Daphne only used difficult words to flaunt her superior intelligence, Asteria knew), she had to say that her unpleasant older sister was quite right.
It was a curious day when she entered the common room to the sound of sobs, but could only find Draco in the room, head buried in a Potions textbook. She must have been imagining it; in fact, it didn't even cross her mind that Draco might have been the source of the noise.
She was a little puzzled when, in her fifth year, he refused to use her as crucio practice during Dark Arts, the classes having been re-arranged by blood as opposed to age.
She was more puzzled still when he apologised to her after that action resulted in them both being used for practice by Alecto Carrow.
By her own admission, Asteria was not very sharp, so it was only on May 2nd, 1998, that she realised perhaps Draco Malfoy was not quite as stolid as she had previously thought; a moment after Harry Potter had killed the Dark Lord, her gaze happened to rest on the blond. It was the first time that she ever saw him smile.
A/N: I hope you liked it :D
Yes, it's only a drabble - but it's still a story, and you pay for stories with … reviews! There's a poll on my profile, and I would love for anyone who's interested to enter my one-shot/drabble challenge (the link and more information is on my profile).
About the Astoria/Asteria debate - Asteria was a Titan, and as Scorpius' middle name was given as Hyperion, another Titan, it makes sense that his mother's name is Asteria and he is therefore named for both of his parents (Scorpius is a constellation, like Draco). So, this is why I called her Asteria :D
