"Are they gonna eat us?" The small, orange haired boy asked his guardian, who held his small hand as the large, paper dragons-kites sailed by. Kazuma shook his head, bemused.
"No, Kyo-Kun. They have no life."
The child blinked,
"Hey, Kazuma-San? Where is momma? Is she still in the white building?" Kyo asked, turning his young face up to Kazumas.
Kazuma knelt and clutched Kyos hand to himself for a minute.
"Yes. Yes, she's still in the white building, Kyo. She will come home soon. Don't worry." Kazuma assured the child.
"Yeah. I hope so…hey! CAN WE GO VISIT HER?!" Kyo suddenly asked, eyes full of hope. Kazuma sighed.
"Welll, I suppose so. But you must be on your best behavior!" He gently chided the eager boy who had practically already run to the house to clean up. Kazuma laughed, amused at Kyo's strong energy. He took one more look at the colorful kites soaring in the indigo sky before walking back to the home, at least a whole walk behind his energetic ward.
As soon as Kazuma entered the house, head brushing the beads hanging from the doorway, Kyo jumped out of the spare room he used as a bedroom in a white shirt, red shorts and his favorite, red baseball cap over his bright hair.
"C'mon!!! Lets go!" He howled at Kazuma, who laughed amiably.
"Patience. Patience, my young Kyo." He reproached as they walked towards the tall, white building with the Red Cross on it. Kyo jumped through the doors and skipped happily through the psych ward to his mother's room, whose number he had learned by heart.
He waited impatiently for Kazuma and hurriedly opened the door as soon as Kazuma stepped onto the cheery doormat. The door was flung open and Kyo sang,
"Hi mama!"
A frail woman shifted out of a whicker chair and got, unsteadily to her slippered feet.
"Hello, Kyo-Kun, darling! Mama has missed you, sweetie!"
Kyo giggled and flung himself over to embrace his mother. She laughed and returned the warm hug.
Hello, Mrs. Sohma. How are you, today?"
Kazuma asked politely. Mrs. Sohma turned and smiled weakly, looking oddly miniscule and fragile next to the adult Sensei.
"Very well, thank you Sensei. Thank you for bringing my treasure here." She gave Kyo an additional squeeze. An older, stern, gray nurse bustled in with a tray of medicines.
"Ah, I'm sorry, but Mrs. Sohma has been prohibited from having visitors." She said crisply and hustled the man and orange-haired boy to the door. As the nurse tried to explain to Mrs.Sohma why she could have a heart attack, she cried panicked.
"I love you, Kyo! Come back and see mama soon!"
Kyo turned and smiled, baby dimples on his cheeks.
"Yes, mama! I love you too!" He cried and walked out of his mother's sight, he then bolted away from Kazuma and out of the hospital door.
Kazuma yelled his name, repeatedly, as he ran towards the outside.
He found Kyo crouched down in an empty, deserted parking lot, sobbing hard and harder. Kazuma reached out and hugged him, rocking him gently, whispering.
"Hush, Kyo-Kun. Hush. Its all right, its all right."
Kyo looked up, his cheeks wet with the diminutive tears.
"I want to be sick for her! She shouldn't be sick!" Kazuma nodded soothingly and stroked Kyo's hair.
"I love you, Kyo. I cherish you."
And Kyo's tears almost stopped.
