Inevitable

You warned that these people would become my friends. That it was inevitable. I said I could handle the relationships. Maybe you were right.

You feared our mission was impossible. That we would fail. It was my turn to assure you that failure was not inevitable.

You urged Emily be returned to her own time. I prayed you were wrong this one time.

You told me you were dying. And I refused to accept the inevitable. Damn, you, for being right.

And now I must complete the mission, alone, without your council. Must everything about my life be inevitable?
